Assuming you are running Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, or XP...

During boot, after "all the computer details come up", press F8 repeatedly until a menu appears. One of the options will be "Enable VGA Mode". Choose that option. Once into Windows, right-click the desktop and hit "Properties". Go to the "Settings" tab, and change the "Screen Resolution" to the lowest possible setting (800x600 is safe). Click OK, and reboot.

Your problem should now be gone. You will want to go back into that screen after you have rebooted and set the resolution higher. At some certain resolution, you'll have the problem again. Don't go that high.

If you are using Windows Vista, then right-click the desktop, hit "Customize", and choose "Display Settings".

Are you using the analog input or another? If using another input instead, then press the 2 key. It will switch to another input as the source signal. If you still experience trouble, please contact ViewSonic technical support for assistance.

Monitor comes on for seconds and then goes black

This may be because the resolution that is set in your user profile when you log on has been changed to a resolution not supported by the monitor. The best way to fix this is by going into Safe Mode (press F8 as the computer starts to load Windows) and change it to a lower resolution once you get logged in. 1024X768 is a pretty safe resolution to start with. Then restart and see if that fixes the issue.

Screen comes up for about 10 seconds, then goes blank

Hello Robert,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Monitor wont stay on- blue light is on. but screen keeps going blank.

Have you tried the monitor on another computer? If so, and it works, the issue is with your graphics settings on your computer. LCD and plasma based monitors often come with a protection circuit that disables the monitor if the synch or refresh rate are beyond it's capabilities. this is to protect your monitor from damage.

Do not exceed your monitor's max resolution.
Resolution is determined the following way:

Width x Height @ Refresh Rate
For your model:
  • Max Resolution 1440 x 900 @ 75Hz
More detailed information about your monitor can be found HERE. If your monitor is still under warranty, and you find it to be faulty, you may be able to send it to the manufacturer for repairs.

LCD Monitor Goes Black during Use

I had the problem sometimes, but then I connected a second computer to the analog input and found out, that the screen didnt turn black but switches between the inputs on an on.

I found out that the "input" button seems to be short or damaged, as the behaviour was invertable by pressing the button. I blew into the button some times (a very naive solution, yeah) but it worked, the switching stoppped.
