Question about Makita DPC8112 16" 81CC Gas Powered Power Cutter Circular Saw

1 Answer

Blown engine I have ten saws i rent out, and have had four motors blow in the past month. the saws are getting old, but are well maintained. When I rent them out, i send them with a can of premixed fuel, so the customer does not put regular gas in the machine. The premix is 50:1 using 2 cycle engine oil from Stens. My question is, Is there a better oil to be mixing with these older saws? Or is there anything else that could be scaring the piston and cylinder, and blowing the motors? (compression is @ 75psi)

Makita likes you to use at least 91 octane fuel and a synthetic oil mixture. the stens oils is garbage, i switched to the makita oil around 6 months ago and i havent had a problem. also, the wacker saws use the same motor and their piston heads are sleeved in carbon so they last longer and dont score the cylinder as fast as the stock makita heads.

makita also makes a 100:1 mix hi performance oil you can use.

How do I change the blade

Unplug the saw. I repeat, unplug the saw and then lift the guard all the way up. Set the teeth of the blade in a wood board to keep it from moving and then loosen the blade. If that doesn't work, go to a bike repair shop and ask to borrow/rent a thin wrench that fits behind the blade. Probably a 3/4 or 7/8" wrench. Use that to hold the blade secure then loosen the blade nut.

How to dismantle Motor housing for a makita cordless circular saw for diagnoses

The replacement part will cost about as much as a new saw. The housing and case is probably warped and deformed enough that it would nearly impossible to get the old one out and a new one in.. Get a new saw.

I need a switch for a Rockwell model 215 71/4 circular saw

Hi bob..... go to searspartsdirect.com Enter the model number and you should be able to order the part. The only time you might run into trouble is when a tool is over ten years old. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

My Delta radial saw motor keeps tripping the GFCI circuit. I've tried several separate circuits and they all trip as soon as I turn on the motor (even a 20 amp dedicated circuit). I took off the motor...

saws draw a lot of amps at start up and will normally blow any GFi circuit, if it does the same in a normal outlet,, you might have to disassemble your saw for a good cleaning and lube,,

What capacitor should be on a table saw motor

The part number you reference is a start capacitor. (details can be seen here: http://www.superioressex.com/uploadedFiles/Distribution/North_America/Essex_Brownell/Downloads/Linecards_and_Catalogs/capacitors_w.pdf )

It appears that the component capacitors (there are 2) are not available as separate parts from Delta. They only reference the motor itself (part 220 in the diagrams listed below.)

http://www.ereplacementparts.com/delta-36650-type-table-saw-parts-c-3275_3334_13634.html

At this point, I would try to locate another saw of the same model and read any numbers that may appear on the original capacitors on the motor. Please note the location and connections of each. There should be a run cap and a start cap on the motor.

The differences between a 47uFD and 20uFD caps are not an issue in this application.

Sears 10 inch Radial Saw wont run

Try blowing out the motor with compressed air, while rotating the blade by hand. (unplug it first.) Then press really hard on the reset, as sometimes they won't move much at all but will have popped. Use a center punch gently if you have to to push on it. If that doesn't yield results, I'd try spinning the blade by hand a bit and then pulling the start switch to turn the motor on. I once got one to crank up again by doing this, and it continued to work afterwards. (Be careful!) Seems like they are like old starters sometimes that get dead spots in the windings....
I know those are pretty basic ideas, but I have one I've managed to keep running for years as well, and would hate the thought of having to replace it... Also seems to me once I had to remove the cover from the motor and repair a shorted wire inside that was touching metal somehow. And that was only apparent after a similar jam of some sort, as I recall...
Best of luck and encouragement, anyway!

Skill saw has blue sparks when i start the motor

the brushes on the motor either need replacing or have dirt lodged in the carriers. Try using compressed air to blow it out first. If its a few years old it may need new brushes in the motor.

Need Manual / Info For Old Delta Chop Saw / Cold Saw

The machine should have a data plate somewhere. This may give blade RPM or motor rpm, then its out witrh the calculator to work out the blade speed. The crucial number however is not the rpm but the peripheral speed in feet or meters per minute.
Used to work with a power tool manufacturer, a standard woodcutting chop saw will safely cut alloy. Two things, watch the blade type, and watch out for metal swarf entering the motor and switchgear !.

Brand new miter saw/ran for 10 hours power was not consistent, then nothing

What part of the motor has blown? There is the armature and field coil and they won't always need replacing at the same time. There are brushes as-well, but as they are quite cheap I'm guessing you have been quoted on one or both of the motor parts to be replaced. Have you asked the repair guys for a report. They should be able to suggest a reason for what has blown and why by looking at the faulty parts. Although most manufacturers and service agents have discretion over warranty claims, if your machine is more than a few months over htere is almost definately noting you can do on the warranty side of things.
