Question about PC Desktops

HP Tower (2000 Media Edition)

I don't know the exact model (not @ home). Powered down yesterday before I left for work. Ten hours later, pushed the "tower" button and NOTHING happened. I am miserable w/o my comp at home. Checked all the connections to no avail. I am computer illiterate. Can anyone suggest something that I can try? It was FINE yesterday morning and then BOOM, it is dead.

Sounds like your power supply unit is dead. Do you get any power or hard drive lights on the unit? If not, I'm afraid it's a repair shop problem.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

You most likely have a faulty graphics card. There are many things that you can do to try and diagnose this issue on your own, but it may be wise to ask for the help of a local computer expert who can determine the exact issue and inform you on how to proceed.

Powered down my cpu (hp pavilion 1530 ) and about 5 hours later it would not power up. Hit he power button and nothing, no fans, no blue light, no cdrom bliking, but the green led is lit on the P/S.

Hi,

Open your tower:
Remove first the video card if you are using a Add in video card. Of course connect your monitor to the built-in video card
Try now

Next remove ram and reseat them back ( if you have more than one stick, try reseating only one)

Try now again

Disconnect CD-rom, Hard Drive

Try now

Last but not least try a different Power supply

Good Luck

It says the system time is invalid and that I may need to replace the onboard battery. I hac a D530. How do I do this?

There are three versions of the HP Compaq D530.

1) The Convertible Mini-Tower Desktop PC
2) The Small Form Factor Desktop PC (SFF)
3) The Ultra-Slim Desktop PC

http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_pagetype=s-001&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_page=hpcom&submit.y=8&submit.x=6&lang=en&cc=us&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_query=HP+Compaq+D530&x=7&y=10

The reason I bring this up is that if I knew what EXACT desktop computer you have, I could give you exact information on how to access the CMOS Battery, and replace it.

I'm going to use the Convertible Mini-Tower Desktop PC for an example,

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=316720&submit.y=8&submit.x=6&lang=en&cc=us&y=10&x=7

In the list click on >
Manuals, (guides, supplements, addendums, etc)

On this page scroll down to the bold heading > Service and maintenance information

Click on the file name >
HP Compaq Business Desktop D500 Service Reference Guide, 5th Edition
Allow the PDF file to fully download.

Use this same procedure on the HP Compaq D530 you have.

In the Bookmarks menu to the left, scroll down until you come to the heading >
Removal and Replacement Procedures - Convertible Minitower (CMT) Chassis

(If you have an SFF, or Ultra-Slim, it will be listed at the end of Removal and Replacement Procedures, instead of Convertible Minitower)

Now scroll down to > 6.15 Battery, and click on it.
Now go to the pages that follow.

(NOTE* You may wish to reduce the view size. Click on the Zoom Out icon.
{Circle at the top of the PDF file with a Minus ( - ) sign in it }

The CMOS Battery is a CR2032. A type of watch battery, found in an abundance of stores.

If you have questions please post in a Comment.

You may need to check to see which "service pack" you are currently on.

See below requirements:

System Software — Windows XP & Vista
  • Windows Vista Business or Ultimate Edition
    • 32-bit OS Installation Only
  • Windows XP Professional or Home Edition
    • With Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3

  • Not Supported:
    • Windows Vista 64-bit (any version)
    • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
    • Windows XP Media Center Edition
    • Windows 98, Me, 2000, NT, 95, 3.1, DOS

  • Not Tested:
    • Windows Vista Home and Home Premium Edition
    • Although Windows Vista Home and Home Premium Edition have not been tested or qualified by Digidesign, there are currently no known issues with Vista Home and Home Premium 32-bit operating systems and Pro Tools M-Powered 7.4 compared to the supported Windows Vista Business or Ultimate Edition operating systems.

Windows Vista SP1
There are currently no known issues with Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista based on our initial limited testing and customer feedback. Although full qualification with all Digidesign products has not been completed, we do not recommend against updating to SP1, given the number of important overall system fixes in SP1. We do recommend that you backup your system and create a restore point before updating to SP1, should you encounter any problems after installing the update.

Looks like you've tried a lot. Try this stuff.

1) Try F11 instead.
2) Dunno. Corruption?
3) chkdsk /f
4) Microsoft EULAs are much less crackable than their software, according to BitTorrent.

How to open up my tower to blow out the dust

Should be screws on the back of tower to take the whole top off or screws down left side back to take the left side off.If one side can come off after screws are taken out you will slide side back to remove.

I have acer aspire laptop computer model 3692WLM1 windows media center edition I wish to purchase a HP DESKJET D4200 series printer will this be compatable for my laptop

Hey doodee,

According to information provided by the manufacturer, this model HP printer requires Windows 2000, Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional in order to function. Apart from the obvious cosmetic changes and some extra added functionality, Windows XP Media Center Edition may be treated as basic Windows XP in many instances. As such, this printer should be compatible with your computer. Please keep in mind however, that you may need to perform driver and software updates in order to guarantee functionality.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
