My camcorder won't read or record DVD due to a message that says that the CD door is open, but the door is clearly closed all the way. I pressed the reset button and removed the battery a couple of times already, but that did not fix it. I have to remove the battery in order to shut down the unit, otherwise the light stays on when the switch is off. Please help.

Re: Message says door open when it is closed
If there is a sensor that detects the door then it probably needs to be replaced
if it is a switch that detects the door the switch will need to be inspected
it will need to be tested to determine the exact cause of the malfunction
there is an electronic circut not detecting the door

Place an empty disc in, format the disc, record a little scene. Turn off camcorder. Place the error disc in the camcorder, turn on the camcorder all the way to play/edit. If this doesn't work turn it to record and try to record. Worked for some of my error disc
Your information should still be there but you have to use a different recorder now that this one is broken or faulty. There should be no problem if you try to use the computer to read the disc. Even if it is the small disc the DVD roms can read them. So try to use the DVD rom and transfer your stuff to the computer hard disc,
Error message 2881 means that the camcorder can not read the disc. Check to make sure you have the correct disc type. Only DVD-R 4.7GB and DVD-Ram types will work.If you are using the correct disk type, then you can try this: Eject the disk and if it it empty just open the cd door. With the lens to the left and the door on the top. look into the device. You will see to the left side a metal platform that houses the dvd laser. take and push the platform all the way to the left. Sometimes the platform fails to retract, so once you do this it may clear the issue. .

Unit may have dust or contaminates built up on optical pickup. If you can reach the lens, try to very gently clean the pickup lens with a Q-tip. It is possible the unit has a defective turntable motor in which case you will have to have it replaced
i had the same problem with my cam JVC GR-DVL309 and i solve it. HOW! Eject the tape, reinsert it BUT while the tape is going down to read, push the door with your hand just a little bit to right side just a few seconds while is reading the tape and close the door, (i had done this 2 or 3 times) this way i have solve the E04 Error, now i can record and play with my cam.
eject the disk and if it it empty just open the cd
door. with the lense to the left and the door on the top. look into the device. You will see to the left side a metal platform that houses the dvd laser. take and push the platform all the way to the left. The platform fails to retract once you do this you should be able to use a disk like normal provide you have a dvd-r disk.
