Materials needed: New empty syringe (big one) Gloves (to protect your hands fromink) Alcohol Paper tissue (to clean the excessink) Empty Plastic bottle (Here you putthe ink from the syringe) Important: Ensure that you have put new blackink cartridge to K8600. Ensure that the printhead arerecognized by the printer or no light alarms. Instruction: Press the Power button to turn onthe printer. Test print in microsoft excel with4 color black/yellow and cyan/magenta. If black only is missing means youhave clogged problem from the host. Wear your globes, prepare thematerials needed. Open the top cover. Press and hold the Resume buttonuntil the carriage moves to the left. CAUTION: Be careful not to proceed until the carriage is on the left sideof the printer. If the carriage does not move to the left automatically, turnthe printer off and back on and then try holding down the Resume button again. The printhead can be damaged if the carriage is not all the way to the left forinstallation. Lift the printhead latch. Lift the handle of a printhead anduse it to pull the printhead black/yellow out of its slot. Put printhead in thepaper tissue upward. Your printer are still ON becarefull not to touch the flex copper circuit. Get your syringe, use this to pullthe ink from the nozzle cap ( see link picture) After the done the syringe method,Insert the printhead black/yellow into its color-coded slot. Press down firmly on the printheaduntil it snaps into place. Pull the printhead latch all theway forward, and then press down until the latch engages. Close the cover. The printer should align theprintheads automatically in a few minutes, printing an alignment page. Print a test with black color only,If it does not print, try to change the Printhead. Light yellow horizontal lines on C522

Remove the supplies and clean the yellow printhead. For instructions on how to clean the printheads, click on this link: http://bit.ly/bCoz92. Just follow the instructions. If that doesn't help, might need replacement. If issue remains after printhead has been cleaned and the supply has been replaced, I suggest you contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance. Thanks.

Print test shows yellow block top half as a light color yellow and the bottom half as a normal darker yellow. tried cleaning a few times and no help.

There could be some paper scraps on the bottom of the printhead, take it out and blot gently on a damp paper towel, if it doesn't help, you'll need a new printhead.

HP Officejet K850 pro prints black ok, but colors are poor

I read earlier that black and magenta were printing but not cyan or yellow.....HP says to gently wipe the side of the electronic band but not the bottom, I did all of the above...and the printheads carefully, no change w/ the printout from "clean printheads"...the cyan had an occasional blue line(very fine) and there was no yellow.

So I trickled warm water over the cyan and yellow printheads....then thought what the heck, got a bowl of warm water and swished the printheads half submerged. They print perfect now I have the reds, yellows, greens and all the colors back w/ the clean printhead option and printed a coupon, it was perfect.

I hope it's not a short term fix...I developed the problem when I didn't print for a long time, hope this helps someone, Cyn

BTW, I flashed a light down in the recepticle for the cyan and yellow printheads and they were gunky w/ blue and yellow gook, so I clean that out w/ a damp lint free rag....paper towels shredded and I had to carefully remove the remnants.

Help with my k5400

It's possible you have one of the following problems:
  • Printhead is faulty
  • The printhead has expired (HP printheads have an expiry date which is written into the chip)
In both of these cases contact HP support to request a warranty replacement (but try the ideas below first obviously :))

  • The printhead hasn't been inserted properly
  • The chip contacts are dirty or soiled in some way
For these last two, try removing the printhead, cleaning the chip carefully with a cotton bud and then replacing carefully.
It's also entirely possible that you've been sold a lemon in which case you need to call the store you bought the printer from and get them to troubleshoot the issue with you and/or replace it/refund your money.

Hope that helps.

I have 2 Epson R230. One has a bad printhead, in that the test print is messy and the black print head is badly clogged. I want to swap the printheads, so that I will at least have one working printer. The...

Befory you toss the printer, try this!
Take a syringe, 1" piece of rubber tubbing that will fit over the head input snugly, (auto parts house stocks some that works fine). Fill the syringe with a good head cleaner, slightly warm it in the microwave (try 5 seconds to start). Attach to nozzle, gently pull back just a bit, then apply a little pressure. If it accepts the fluid, STOP, You can clean the syringe, add the proper color ink, inject just a small amount. reinstall a known good cartridge, clean heads couple times checking results, if ANY streaks or color appears, clean again! Sometimes letting it sit overnight allows the head to fill with ink. I have had very good luck with this method, also some will not clean properly, just depends on how bad it is clogged.
Good luck..

My color pictures are light and not colorful.

Maybe you are not using Kodak cartridges, however I know someone who has had the printhead replaced 6 times untill the problem was solved with a new printhead, I would phone Kodak and ask them to replace the whole printer in case it has a manufacturing fault, ! A brilliant printer when working but too many problems arise in use.
