This can already be a dead processor due to overuse and overheating , becuse first thing that you can think of here is the power supply but power is still getting to the motherboard so its not the power supply nor the motherboard, so if its possible for you to try a different processor that will be better so we can check it...

If sending in for warranty do not let them know you have been inside it will void all warranty!!

Sounds like the motherboard is bad a replacment board usually runs aroun $200.00 on ebay if not under warranty. use your ram cpu etc.

Is you machine covered by warranty? it would be best to take it to warranty repair, if you don't have warranty, and this seems like a major fault in the mainboard its cheaper and easyer to buy a new laptop.

your cpu, memory and so on are most likely fine, the motherboard may have failed, would need to be tested.

  • Ekse Oct 30, 2008

the power may go to the board, I have had many motherboard failed laptops which still have the power light come on but they don't start up, they fail in post and don't power on. but the light can still come on, no picture in screen, no fan.

This is a typical motherboard issue.
It seems like there is a problem with the conduction to the motherboard.
I suggest sending the laptop to a lab for further testing.

Certainly seems like some sort of hardware failure. better test that at a certified lab.

Try pulling out and putting back in place the ram modules, the motherboard can be faulty.

Try first unplugging the power cable for ten minutes, and see if restarts, this reset can often solve the problem.

If the computer does not start there is the fault.

If you have no power at all , then is the power supply unit

If you have power and no screen, then the computer must be started with minimal set of devices.

This is done by accessing the motherboard and starting it with no disks and possibly no pci devices, or the Video card only and one RAM module.

If you have not done this before do not do it yourself, an easier test is pulling out one ram module and starting the computer with one module, but this still requires accessing the motherboard.

If the fan and the fan wirings are ok and the cpu fan does not even spin, then is either a fried motherboard or a faluty cpu. Usually is the motherboard.

Take the battery out, connect the power plug and see if the laptop runs without the battery connected, the main battery may need to be replaced.

Labtop wont start up

Hi I am a laptop technician, and it sounds like you have a power problem.

Try removing the main battery and starting the laptop on the mains cable only. If the laptop starts fine then you probably have a problem with either the battery or the power board in the laptop.

If the laptop doesn't start when doing this, remove the mains power lead from the laptop and put the main battery back on the laptop. Try starting the laptop off the main battery only and if the laptop starts normally then you most likely have a broken/loose socket that the power lead plugs into in the back of the laptop (a very common problem) or the power board in the laptop is faulty. If the laptop doesn't start or goes off very shortly after pressing the power button it could just be that the battery is flat as a broken power socket on the laptop often stops the main battery from charging.

I hope this helps.

Ei systems 4411 wont power on/mains or battery power

If the fan does not spin, the unit is shutting down to protect the processor. I would have the fan replaced . Do not attempt to use the laptop, it may cause extensive damage if it overheats.

Ei systems 4411 wont power on

The most likely cause of your ills is a failed motherboard Jake. Processors are pretty tough but unfortunately HP did a lousy job with the motherboards on the DV series and many, many of them fail and usually after the warranty is over.

Laptop battery

It does charge until the battery reaches full charge, then charger stops and laptop use adapter's power. The whole system is thought to not damage or wear the battery while in charge. Leave battery safely inside your Dell while using it with power adaptor, it should not make any difference in your battery life.
