Lexmark Wheelwriter 15 Series II Typewriter Problems

Prints okay on left side of paper, but after the first few inches, the bottom of letters don't print (both lower and upper case).

Is this an adjustment a novice/DIYelfer can handle, or do we need to call for help?

Thanks.

The right side of the platen has prabably come unlatched. Just push down on the right side of the platen, (black roller the opaper goes around) it should clunk down into place.

How do you clean the platen in an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II?

Remove the platen by squeezing the plastic lathes at both ends.
Clean it with mineral spirits and fine sand paper.

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II and the ribbon needed replaced so we replaced it, now when you try to top it just types the top half of the letters??????

Make sure both tabs on the rear of the cartridge are in their respective slots. If that does not work, try pushing down on the black platen roller on both ends. If one side is not locked in place, you will get half letters.

IWhen i turned it on it only types half the letters/numbers etc

If it is only typing the top half of the letters the platen may not be fully seated in the side frames, push down firmly on both ends of the platen it should snap into place.

The return clutch torque limiter is off or broken. If you take the right dust cover off it is on the turning hub around the middle of the typewriter. a small spring about 1.25 inches long with a hook on the end. I have been fixing these for 35 years. good luck. Lawrence

try turning the machine off put a SMALL amount of oil on the large round rod running across the typewriter manually push the print head left and right a few times to see if it will loosen up. The problem is usually caused be drying oil you may consider having it serviced by a pro.
