Question about Canon SPEEDLITE 580EX TTL Flash

Getting out of the Custom Functions menu

I am in C.Fn menu, did my adjustments but can not go out of the menu. The sign C.Fn remains on the screen and can not change the Mode to TTL anymore. I am supposed to press "Mode", but this does not help.

I cannot set my gun to ETTL. It stays at TTL and the CFn stays on screen. I was part way through shooting a job when I noticed my photos were grossly underexposed. After checking the gun, I found it to be set on TTL. I cannot seem to get it back on track. Is it a fault that needs a repair?

Hi,
Had the same problem, in the custom function menu choose C.Fn-05 and 0. This should rreturn your flash metering mode to E-TTL. Worked for me give it a try.

How do i change from remote ttl on my nikon sb800.

Press the Menu button. Scroll to the Custom Setting Menu. Scroll to "e Bracketing/flash". Right arrow and scroll down to "e3 Flash cntrl for built-in flash" and push the center button. You now have access to the TTL, Manual, Repeating flash and Commander modes. Right arrow on CMD and a menu will appear that allows you to set up the built in flash and the external flash groups.

I have canon g1 3.3 i turn on and it flashes letters CF what does that mean

Strange problem this one. Could mean insert a Compactflash (CF) card or that the CF card is full of maybe even Custom Functions are set. A photo of the display would help me better to solve the problem.

Need correct day and time on Olympus FE 170 digital camera

How do I set the date and time on the FE-170?

To access the clock controls, turn the mode dial to any shooting mode except [GUIDE] and then press the [MENU] button. Next, press the Right arrow on the arrow pad to select the [Setup] icon. Using the Up or Down arrow, navigate to the menu item depicting a clock. Press the [OK] button to access the clock settings feature.
Set the year, month, day, hour, minutes and date format using the following procedure: Use the Up and Down arrows to select values, and press the Right arrow to advance to the next item. (The FE-170 uses a 24-hour clock.) When all information has been entered, press the [OK] button to set the values. Press [MENU] twice to exit the menu.
To set the time precisely, with the cursor on either "minutes" or "date format," press the [OK] button as the time signal strikes 0 seconds.
The date and time settings will be returned to the factory defaults if the camera is left without batteries for approximately three days. Custom settings may be canceled more quickly if the batteries were only loaded into the camera for a short time before being removed. Before taking important shots, check that the date and time are correct.

580ex off camera shuts down after a minute or so of standby

No and no, the flash is by default programed to shut off after 1 minute .If you were using the flash on-camera, the flash would automatically power itself on when camera activity is detected but when the flash is detached, it doesn't wake back up.
To change this you have to turn off the auto shut off in the flash menu:
1. Power the flash on
2. Hold down the back light /C.Fn button until "Fn 00 0" appears on the screen
3. Rotate the selector wheel until you see "Fn 01 0"
4. Press your selector button down so that the 0 begins flashing
5. Rotate your selector wheel to change the 0 to a 1
6. Rotate the selector to the "Fn 14 0" position and set it to 1

7. Press your selector button to save this parameter
8. Press your Mode button to return to the main screen

Now your flash stays on as long as the flash switch is turned on ON, and as long as you have juice in the batteries.

Do not forget to turn off the flash after you are done. You can reverse it anytime, but you have to read the manual for that..

Same setup can be found in the manual

580EX speedlite not firing

Does the pilot lamp light up? If so can you fire it manually by pressing on it? If the batteries are low it may simply just be taking a while to charge, the camera will not wait for it to be ready to fire and it may seem to be not working. If your flash can be fired manually however, there may be a problem with the cameras shutter or the hotshoe. You can do a basic check by pressing the star button at the rear of the camera, you should get a pre-flash. If not, there is a problem with the cameras hotshoe which you will need addressed by a service centre. If you get a preflash you can next check the cameras shutter by setting the second curtain to sync with the flash. This can be done via the cameras "Custom Function" menu, c-Fn 15. Set the camera to TV mode and chose a 1 second exposure. Take a shot with the flash attached, if the shutter is working correctly, the flash should fire a pre-flash and then a main flash. If it doesnt, the switch inside the shutter is broken and the shutter needs to be replaced. This is a pretty labour intensive repair and you may consider an upgrade as more economical.

Hey,
Mine seems to be in a bad shape too. It is not charging, and I have no control to the ETTL. I can't go either in the custom functions, or things like that.
Do you have the same symptoms ?

Sb-600 and d80 sync, connecting, off camera..

  1. On the SB 600, activate the custom settings menu by pressing the ZOOM and '-' buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. In the custom settings menu, set the Wireless Remote Flash option (indicated by a curled arrowhead) to 'ON' (use + and - buttons to toggle between options)
  3. Set the flash mode to Master (do not set it as AA or A)
  4. Press Mode button and select one of the four channels available (ensure that you set the camera also on this channel)
  5. On the D80, from custom settings menu, select Built-in-flash
  6. Set the built-in-flash to '--' if you do not want the flash to show up in the scene
  7. Set the mode of the group to i-TTL (this menu can be used to control multiple flashes in different groups. since you are using only one remote flash, select the group you have set in the SB600)
  8. Set the channel to the same as in step 4
Now you are ready to use the remote off-camera flash.
