Question about Logitech Cordless Mouse

Logitech MX420 mouse w/XP SP2 MCE

My Gateway GT4020 PC will only recognize an HID-compliant mouse. The features of the Logitech mouse are for the most part not available. My biggest complaint is that I cannot cut and paste from the web to a file on my hard drive. In Control Panel/add hardware, Logitech is not even listed. In Device Manager, the only mouse listed under Mouse is HID-compliant (Microsoft) and it is supposedly working perfectly. I wish. Shouldn't there be a way to list a Logitech mouse under Hardware? Thanks,

The mouse is an MX460. It is a wireless mouse which has a small USB device similar to a Memorex travel drive that plugs into a USB port. The problem I am having seems to only occur on the Web. I saw something the other day that I do not understand, but maybe you can help me with this. I was reading a Fire Fox forum page [I use Fire Fox as my browser.] saw some references to the config.sys folder used by Fire Fox. I opened the folder, but did not attempt to make any changes to any of the settings. I saw a number of line entries referenceing mouse settings, but again, I do not know exactly what they mean, and the forum writer cautioned against making any changes unless you knew what you were doing.

Is it possble there has been a change, or a setting was added/updated, whatever to the Fire Fox config.sys file, that is preventing the mouse's right click from "selecting" and the mouse's left button from "pasting." On a web URL I can copy the link, URL etc. but not a .jpeg, selection of text, etc.

The other thing I do not understand is why my PC does not have a device listing for Logitech under the "Add Hardware" listing. In the Control Panel/Devices/Mouse, the only listing is for a generic HID-compliant mouse. This of course is a 2 button mouse and does not have the additional features, most of which work, of the MX620. The Logitech programs which come up from the Systray do not have any options which allow the user to change any characteristics of the mouse, even thought the instructions say they should be there. Frustrating as Hell because it seemed to just quit "selecting" and "pasting" one day and restoring XP to an earlier date does not have any effect.

Thank you for your interest in my problem. Perhaps you have heard of something similar and can provide another clue in unraveling this dibacle.

Wireless Logitech Mouse working but not usual way

Hi,

Make sure you dont have any viruses or spyware. It is the number one cause of mouse glitches.

Install a good anti-spyware program and run it. In the least install CCleaner - it is free and is a fantastic program. You can find it here:

http://www.ccleaner.com/download

Run it (regularly).

If that doesnt fix the issue then start addressing the mouse itself. Unplug it. Restart the pc. Plug it in. Restart the pc again. Right click My Computer, goto Properties, Hardware, Device Manager. Under "mice and other pointing devices" there should NOT be an exclamation mark. This means everything is ok.

Next open up this option and it should say HID compliant mouse. Right click it and select update driver. It may or may not offer you an upto date driver. But essentially, that should do it.

If this doesnt fix it, borrow another (working) mouse, and try it instead. It may after all be the mouse thats a problem.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Mohammed

98811 mouse wont work

The GE 98811 ergonomic Wireless mini mouse is a HID compliant mouse you will need to change the setting to use this mouse. This is what I would suggest:
Go to device manager
Go to the unknown device
Manually pick a driver
Mice and other pointing devices
***Change to a HID compliant mouse***
Then press the connect buttons on both pieces of hardware and the mouse should work
Hope this helps, it took me over two hours to get the mouse working. Very frustrating!!

Got a new laptop, acer 6930, my old mouse worked until some updates were done, so i bought a new Logitech wirelesss mouse,, it says it installed it, but it doesnt work

if these updates are logitech based. may be issue with hid driver system.

  1. open the device manager
  2. look for the mouse section
  3. right click on the logitech mouse
  4. update driver (do not start auto updater)
  5. select advanced/install from specific location
  6. then select dont search i will choose a driver.
  7. if you see more then one logitech driver choose hid-compliant device.
  8. mouse should start working uninstall all logitech programs and delete all folders for logitech in the programs folder.
  9. use CCleaner to get rid of any registry entries.

My HID usb mouse is not working

This a problem with windows. An error in the registry isresponsible however your standard scanners dont help much. Check the mouse on another pc if it worksyou have several choices. 1. Reinstall/Repair windows on the machine the error has occured on. 2. Attempt to locate what hasgone wrong in the registry many advise t delete the mouse info from the registry and reinstall the generic drivers. I saw this problem CAUSED by a windows update just after SP3. please guys dont tell people there hardware needs replacing without troubleshooting. The site is called fixya.

Not able to install and use AMU02EU in vista

Vista says something along the lines of it can't find driver?
I had that happen with my new Targus wireless rechargable mouse.

Look in device manager, if it is listed as an UNKOWN DEVICE, you need to manually install driver as HID-compliant mouse.

Details:
Go to >Control Panel > System Select Device Manager from lefthand list.
There should be an "Unkown Device" in the list. To be sure, expand Mice and other pointing devices and see if your device is already there. Better yet, unplug mouse's receiver and the unkown device should go away.
Right click on the unknown device, and choose Update Driver Software... select Browse my computer for driver software then Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer then you need to find Human Interface Devices and subcategory HID-compliant mouse.
Vista tends to try and install these devices as USB mice when they should be HID.

USB optical wheel mouse not detected by XP

Hi, You can try to: Right click on "My Computer", click on Properties, click on the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager Button, expand your Mice and other pointing devices. verify that you 2 entries. One is the Sony builtin (Alps in my Vaio) and a HID-compliant mouse. The latter is your external optical wheel mouse. Make sure it does not have any red or yellow mark. Double click on the HID and verify that the next window says "This device is working properly." If not follow on screen instructions to enable or activate. Hope this be of some help. Good luck and pls post again how things turn up or if you need further information. Kind regards.
