Last week the TV would come on and perform normally, with ocasional flashes and problems as described below. Each day normal periods of good operation became shorter and shorter.
Now the screen comes on greenish color, w/poor detail. After a few minutes the detail goes away leaving a green, red or white screen. Sound good always. The tuner and video inputs both do the same. However the menu, channel number, and stereo/mono displays are always good.
The unit is 4.5 years old and has provided very good service.

I have no experience of these but as they work by connecting to the internet nothing is live in the conventional sense but streamed either from a single or a series of websites the firestick is programmed to log on to. The website(s) will usually provide a mixture of "live" tv, catch up tv available for a limited time, archive material and special programming and some movies.
What you get will depend on what is available free and what needs to be paid for, your internet/wireless connection and how good you are at reading instructions and operating the remote, assuming the firestick is working correctly.
A friend had a problem with connected tv and it turned out some of the sites took a long, long time to load and he was impatient and assumed it wasn't working.
hmm normally these settings are found in the picture settings of the set top box or just a setting in the tv's picture settings now there might be an option to say fill screen that may work best for some or leave the tv in 16:9 some broadcasts may only be in 4:3 at times this is normal broadcasting and not much can be done unless the setting on the picture option is set to fill screen
back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.
Yes, this normal, by the lack of detail shown in your question. Once you press any key it should come back on unless it is set to turn it self off while in sleep mode. This is to protect the display from creating burn in setting.
i'm sorry sir but your tv set needs to be repaired, it is not apart of normal operation for the set to exhibit such behavior, furthermore this seems to be a hardware issue and I do NOT advise YOU to disassemble the unit, try and adjust the color via the menu to help but the set needs repair beyond your scope, leave it on if you can, it wont hurt much
