check the printer spooler is runing or not type services.msc in run and press enter and check..............

go to start>Run>type services.msc

then restart printer spooler service ...

Before connecting the printer put the cd that came with the printer into cd/dvd drive. This is to install drivers for your printer. Follow the instructions that comes on the screen. If nothing comes on the screen then run setup.exe from the cd.

Connect the printer when asked to do so or only after installing the programe.(i.e. drivers). good luck
