Have you adjusted the brightness? Amend where necessary
Does it happen even on startup? Yes = Monitor Failure repair/replace. No=Graphic settings

I suspect the monitor. For the sake of troubleshooting: Try another monitor for a few days. If you have the same issue, we will know it is the video card.

I have a Sony Viao NS10E, all working fine and then the screen went dark, took screen out and put in an other laptop and it worked fine, put the screen from the other laptop in mine and still dark. The...

You definitely have a Video Card Error related.
  1. Find Where Your Graphic Card located (asuming your computer has a separate card for video .
  2. Check the connection from your display to your video card (these connections are very thin wires running all the way to the video card or the MB).
  3. If the second step is clarified then have your graphic card checked. or have *********** Board chip set checked for bios and fermware.
Mostly you have a connection problem.

Screen problem

Hi, if everything is still original with no add-ons or upgrades, then it is most likely that one of your memory is failing. Your computer has a built-in video card that shares memory system. Then replacing the memory should do the trick. However, I must caution you that your particular brand/model has certain limitations to the type/size/speed of memory. You should probably consult a qualified service personnel/professional since this involves opening the case. Should you want to do this yourself, a step by step instruction is available at http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx110/ens/sm/remms.htm. Hope this be of some help. Good luck.
