Name changes are done from the System Administrators phone. In the TA-series, it's system program 604. In a TAW it's 004. I can give you complete instructions, but you have to get to that screen first.

If you get there and want to play, the SP Phone FWD CONF MUTE and keypad press up to 7 times enter the Alphabet names (space is under 1). Nothing writes until you press STORE.

Find the phone for the system administrator. It's usually 101. From that phone, press PROGRAM and dial *#1234 or **1234. If the display says SYS-PGM NO?, dial 604 and when it says Extension Name press SP PHONE 2 times. It will now display #01: and a name. Keep pressing SP PHONE until the name you want to change appears.

So here you're on your own, but if you want to spell Carl :-) Then press 2 (3 times) FWD 2 (4 times) 7 (7 times) and 5 (6 times) then STORE

SP PHONE steps to the next jack PROGRAM ends programming.

If you have a different system, the programming is similar in 004.

Please wander to the back room and check out your phone system cabinet. The one that won't behave would maybe be a 123211D cabinet. It's unlikely as the programming codes are 2 digit.

If you find the model number, I'll get you the proper directions.

To be fair, a Panasonic 7730 will plug into a cabinet made 20 years ago and still work completely.

They have made about 18 different systems in that time. BTW the good thing is your 20 year old Panasonic phone will work in a new cabinet :-)

In those years, we have gone from a cabinet where you had to go to the main box and flip a switch to program to one where you can press PROGRAM on any phone and program the system. We went from simple 1/0 area codes to 6 digit screening.

Each of these systems have retained most of the programming in the same location...time is always 00 or 000, Speed dial is always 01 or 001, but some of the features differ between how it's entered and displayed, and some, like set names differ in where they're located. In some it's 004, 604, 64 and so forth.

If you never press ENTER or STORE, you can examine what's in the program and even start to change it. It doesn't write until you tell it. Navigation within the program is done with the HOLD (top level) SP PHONE, CONF FWD (for back and forward) and AUTO ANS to select different features.

As a dealer, I have electronic and paper copies of every system that Panasonic makes, and access to internet copies of most of the recent ones. So if it seems frustrating that your question isn't instantly solved, realize that the phone is just the instrument and it knows nothing. It just responds to the program in the box.

My guess is you're not going into programming. I believe the last post from me asked you what sytsem you have and you were going to ask your boss.....

If it worked before to get to numbers and every time you press a button, even the same on you get a character on the screen, then try pressing the AUTO ANS/MUTE button after each keypress.

I have panasonic kx-t7730. How to set the intercom name and number?

Changing the name and extension number can be done through system admin programming from a phone extension allowed by the class of service assigned to that extension by the phone system installer. Typically the attendant phone is allowed this ability. From the programming phone press **1234(1234 is the default password) to access programming. Once in programming dial 003 for extension numbering then press . Enter the current extension number of the phone you want to change followed by the new extension number then press . Lift the handset to end programming. Access programming again by pressing **1234. Dial 004 for extension name programming then press . Enter the new extension number you programmed then enter the name for the extension. Press then lift handset to end programming.

It is possible that your phone has not been assigned an extension number, in that case system installer programming would need to be accessed to assign the port an extension number. The port number the phone is connected to would have to be determined. This could require tracking the wiring back to where it is connected into the phone system. If this is the case I advise calling a qualified service technician.

Lost panasonic KXT-7730 password

If you lost the password the only way to get into programming mode is to reset the telephone system to factory default. If you are not accustomed to all programming features this is not recomended because resetting will whipe out all programming including ringer settings, extension names, speeddials, routing and class of service. If you still want to reset let me know.
