Re: USB 2.0 Flash Drive prblem
On first read, the error message indicates that there is a bad section of the flash memory card in your pen drive. We call these areas, sectors. A utility in Windows, called ScanDisk, which you may be familiar with can scan and then mark the sector as bad and then allow data to be written again.
However, this may be a fatal error and render the flash drive unusable. I'll have to ask you to check a few things to make a final judgement.
First, when you insert the pen drive into a usb port, does Windows recognize the drive by making the familiar tone or do you get an error message on insert?
Thanks for taking a few minutes to answer these questions. I'm afraid I will only have more until we can determine if you have a usable pen drive or not.
Just so you know, this pen drive has a lifetime warranty so it will be replaced and I can provide you with the web site address for doing that should it come to this.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. goodluck!

Hard drive has bad sectors. Before your replace your hard drive when getting this error, try this-
Boot from a Windows XP CD and choose Repair at the first prompt to get
the recovery console. Type "chkdsk c: /p/r" at the prompt. Repeat until
there are no errors found. Exit and reboot. It worked for me.
There are number of things that can cause an error like this. Faulty memory, a bad harddrive, a failing motherboard, or a corrupt OS. If you get this error every time you power on your PC than follow the below steps It probably meant the installation itself was corrupt, not the disk you were using.
The Windows Memory Diagnostic tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer for errors. The diagnostic includes a comprehensive set of memory tests. If you are experiencing problems while running Windows, you can use the diagnostic to determine whether the problems are caused by failing hardware, such as RAM or the memory system of your motherboard. Windows Memory Diagnostic is designed to be easy and fast. On most configurations, you can download the diagnostic, read the documentation, run the test and complete the first test pass in less than 30 minutes.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Is there any USB connected hard drive or flash drive connected?
If so, it could be that the computer is trying to boot from them. You would have to change the computer's boot settings in the BIOS.
2. I hope it isn't this one, it could mean your hard drive has gone to the bad or the boot sector, MBR, is corrupt. I think ACER's have a diagnostics partition. On boot, you should see options to for booting to another device. Choose this and run the diagnostics on the hard drive. If under warranty, contact ACER.
I hope it is the first one.
Restoring to an eariler date cannot fix this problem.
If the hard disk diagnostics failed, this could indicate the hard drive is about to fail. The hard disk platter/s most likely has some bad clusters and if any files are located on these bad clusters then you would get a read failure. The number of bad clusters will increase and cause further problems.
Run chkdsk to lock out these bad clusters but this is a temperoary solution and the computer may not be able to relocate the data from the bad sectors to a good sectors.
The fix is to backup your data as soon as possible, then replace the hard drive with a new hard drive and re-install Windows and the Compaq's device drivers.
The 2000-0146 error code indicates a read/write failure of the hard drive. There is at least 1 sector that is failing on the drive. While it is working at the moment, the drive is failing and will over time degrade and eventually fail completely. Backup any important data, then replace the drive.
Run the Windows Check Disk utility. This utility will check and repair system file errors (logical structure), and examine the physical structure (the integrity of the disk surface) as well. Close all applications, browsers, and utilities.Open My ComputerRight-click your hard drive (C:)Click Properties, then click Tools TabUnder Error-Checking, click Check NowClick check box for "Automatically fix file system errors"Click check box for "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"Click Start to run the utility
Download and run the freeware diagnostic tool "HD Tune". This terrific tool will run a complete benchmark analysis of your hard drive, check for structural errors, examine overall health issues item by item, and more.
Download and run the freeware diagnostic scanning tool "Emsa DiskCheck". This tool is a dual purpose utility for disk checking (pre-scan and full disk reading) and benchmarking.
The drive is probably infected with some kind of viruses which are capable of creating bad sectors. What I would suggest is to run a virus scan on the drive and see if it finds anything. Then run check disk or anyother diagnostic tool of your choice. Norton disk doctor(if you have it) is very good at this job. If it still doesn't work then I would assume that it is some kind of conflict in the USB controllers and will guide you through the troubleshooting that.
This error code refers to "bad Sectors "on your harddrive ....and they cannot be accessed ......meaning your drive is probably toast or close to it .....there are HD diagnostics test you can download and run from the HD manufactuer....
