Question about Refrigerators

Scandinova fridge freezer. Fridge works, but the lower freezer section only freezes when on fast freeze. Any ideas? We live in Australia but the unit was purchased in the UK. Do you know in which country they are made? Your help will be appreciated.

Hi,
When on fast freeze the freezer thermostat is by-passed and current sent directly to cooling gas compressor. I suggest the freezer thermostat is knackered, fitting a new one isn't too difficult, that is if you can get your hands on one out there !!!!

Unfortunately I don't know where Scandinova are made, or more to the point IF they are still in production but, some replica spares are to be had.

Good luck.

Why the heat exchanger between the freezer section and the fridge section freezes up around the second element closer to the door and makes ice on the roof of the fridge section.

If your freezer is icing up it is the defrost mechanism consisting of the timer, heating element, and defrost thermostat.

When you unplug unit everything melts and it runs fine for a few days till it freezes up again.

Usually it is the heating element that just burns out and has to be replaced.

Admiral american fridge freezer constantly blowing cold air into fridge compartment.

Changing the freezer settings won't really make a difference because regardless its still going to be freezing. The way the machine works is the freezer cools the fridge, and there should be a control in the fridge that operates the baffles in the airway between the freezer and fridge and reduces the amount of air that enters into the fresh food section.

This is a drawback of most mini-fridges. Start by defrosting everything. Then fill ice cube trays with water and keep lowering the setting until the water freezes. Just go a little lower, no more. Fridge should not freeze food. If the fridge stays closed all the time food will freeze. Also if the freezer element gets ice buildup it must be defrosted. Not automatic like home fridge. Most kids today weren't born when the last fridges that had to be defrosted were in service.

Ffa70 hotpoint fridge freezer

Adjust the temperature control for the freezer to a normal setting. Fast freeze is only for when new products are put in that need to be frozen. This locks the system into a continuous run mode and could be responsible for the freezing condition in the refrigerator section. Check the temperatures with a thermometer as the sensor for the freezer temperature could be bad causing the light to come on.

Too cold in bottom section

Had the same problem and referred to another post regarding ice build up around the evaporator coils in the freezer unit. I had no ice build up but flat foil guard had dropped down across the freezer outlet which caused more cold air to be forced up into the lower section of the fridge. This caused the freezing of the vegetables.
Follow barkbugs steps first www.fixya.com/support/t970724-fisher_paykel_fridge_freezer and see if that is the problem.
Also while starting to remove items from the freezer check to see if something has moved back and is blocking the air vent. Even a packet of food may cause enough blockage. A slicker pad was also part of our problem.
