I'm posting your solution here to remove it from the unsolved problems list.
Solution by Robert:
This problem was finally resolved as a corrupted map file on the SD memory card in the hp ipaq 5550. Solution was to reformat the memory card using fat32 memory format. I used a SD memory card slot on my laptop and right click the drive letter and select format to format the memory card. After that, I reloaded map files to the memory card and all was OK. Note that previously I had loaded map files on the memory card successfully but that was not good enough. A reformat of the memory card was apparently needed. I had also previously tried a hard full reset of the ipaq by pressing and holding the lower two buttons (calendar and itask) while holding in the reset button with the stylus for 5 seconds and resynced my contacts and reloaded the gps software, but this was to no avail. Try the re-format.
thanks for the post.
the first thing is to install the ipac software and try see if the syetm can sysnc.
when properly configured there should be an ipac icon in my computer, open this folderand other sub folders will be visible,if you have an SD card media in this device it will be visibleas well. try copy the music of your choice from the system into the music folder or your sd card depending on your pref.
Well I?ve been poking around and here are the facts I?ve found:
-The largest SD memory card HP lists as an accessory is a 2GB card.
-The actual specifications sheet states the SD slot supports SD, SDIO and MMC but makes no mention of any size limitation.
My suspicion based on my own personal use of HP hand held PCs is that it will probably accommodate your GB SD memory card. In my own personal experience is that the devices list as accessories only those memory cards that were prevalent at the time the PC was released. So even though the HP site only lists 2GB as the largest its only because the larger cards didn?t exist in the marketplace at the time so it really isn?t any kind of indicator. To me the specifications sheet is the ultimate reference and it doesn?t make note of any type of imitation.
If you are still apprehensive buy the memory from a mail order house like TigerDirect and tell them you want a 4GB SD module for an HP H2210 PocketPC. If it doesn?t work you can return it for a full credit.

did you install the following:
"iPAQ H3970/H3975 SD Card Driver Updates
version 1.1 (27 Oct 03)"
- Resolves performance issues with SD memory card.
- Resolves undetected SD memory card.
- Resolves lockups due to SD memory card.
memory card isn't really memory it's more like a disk drive. it's not like when you add memory to a PC and the new memory is automatically used.
To make use of this card you need to transfer some of your larger files to the card....
You can move files from within the ipaq...
Click and hold on file.
Click and hold
Navigate with File Explorer to the SD card....
Open File Explorer
Select My device
Now select SD Card
You can create a new folder or select an existing folder
Click on Edit at bottom of screeen.
You can also move files directly from PC to Storage card......
While IPAQ is connected, go to My Computer, then double-click on Mobile Device, then double-click on Pocket PC. Now you will see your Storage Card, and you can use this just like a folder on your PC. You can create folders within it. You can click and drag files to it or to any of it's folders.
