Question about AT&T EP5962 Phone

Answering Machine Will Not Activate for Call Waiting

If I am talking on the phone and another call comes in the answering machine will not kick in. I either have to flash for the second call or the calling party will get a busy signal after two rings. This is a major issue for me as I work from home as a recruiter and I am on the phone a lot. It is not convenient to "flash" to answer the other caller.

I use an AT&T 5.8 Digital Plus 2 Line phone and the answering machine is built in. I have both the home phone and my office phone ringing on this 2-line phone. For instance, If I am talking on line 2 and another call comes in for line 2, the answering machine will not activate for the second call that is coming in. After about 2 rings I was told by a caller, they get a busy signal. So, if I don't "flash" to answer that second call, they hang up because there is no opportunity for them to leave a message. Thanks.

What part of the above don't you understand? The answering machine has to have a line ringing to answer it. That means ring voltage from an idle line. You can either order Call Forward Busy/No Answer from the phone company, and send it to your cell or residential line, or get Central Office based voice mail.

Did you get telco voice mail? I'm guessing not. The answering machine can't answer the line because a) its not ringing and b) You're on it.

SOURCE: the phones have caller id and it works except not

You'll need to call your phone company. (Qwest, BellSouth, SBC, it depends on where you live)

Call Waiting ID (or CID-on-Call-Waiting) is a separate feature, possibly with an extra monthly charge, but possibly it just needs a free activation

How to change number of rings on VTect cordless CS6114-11

The CS6114-11 isn't an answering machine. It will ring until you answer, an answering machine or voicemail system picks up, or the caller hangs up.

To change the ring count on your answering machine, consult its documentation. If you require further assistance, please add a comment to this question and identify the answering machine or voicemail system.

How do I increase number of rings on my cordless phone

There's nothing about it in the manual for the simple reason that the VTech CS6419 is a phone, not an answering machine. The number of rings before the answering machine picks up is determined by the answering machine, independent of the phone. Please consult the documentation for whatever answering machine you have on your phone line.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to post your question again, stating the make and model of the answering machine.

Cannot get the answering system to work M M Brown

If you are talking about an answering machine it may be similar to the problem I had with the wireless home phone with answering machine not taking messages when had the answering machine set to 12 rings before answering. Found the sim card (my wireless system) auto response would answer first. Fixed it by reducing time to 6 rings and answering machine now comes on first. This might resolve it for you.

Help, call waiting stopped working people sent to answer machine

You have set automatic call diversion to your 'message bank' or answering service when your line is busy for a preset time which may allow you to pick up this second call.
Unless you know the prodecures to change your telephone line options (which may be on the internet or via telephone key pad sequences), talk to your friendly telephone company help desk and ask them to reset your default to what you wish to do.
Hope it helps!

Please ..need to know how to get other call on call waiting.. cordless phone 5.8

Adding call waiting as a feature to your telephone can help you take calls that you are waiting for without having to stay off the phone until that important call comes in. With call waiting, you get a beep when you are on another call to let you know that another call is coming in. If you want to take the call, you follow the simple steps outlined in this article.
  1. ep 1 Order call waiting from your phone provider if you do not already have it. Cal waiting works best with caller ID features that give you the phone number and name of the person calling you. Phone numbers that have blocked numbers or use *67 to mask their caller ID will not show up on caller ID.
  2. Step 2 Take a call when your phone rings. While you are talking on the phone and hear a beep, you are receiving another phone call. Using your caller ID function, whether it's on your answering machine or on your handset for the telephone, see who is calling you. If you want to talk to them, quickly press your "talk" button to put the other call on hold or disconnect. Press "talk" again to take the incoming call.
  3. Step 3 Disregard the other phone call if you do not want to terminate the call you are on. The new call coming in may go to your answering machine. Or if you have the call back feature on your telephone, you can simply call *69. Your phone will dial the number of the person whose call you just missed.
  4. Step 4 Use call waiting as politely as you can. You might tell someone who you are talking to that you are expecting an important call and may have to terminate the call abruptly. Call waiting calls should be answered as quickly as you can. After four rings, most phone calls go right to the machine or people hang up. Promise to call your first caller back if you have to interrupt the call

Talking on phone, someone calls in & leaves message, can't locate

Thanks for the opportunity to help with your problem. If you also have voice mail through your phone service provider, it's possible that while you are on the phone, the incoming call is "waiting" (meaning you are hearing a beep while you are still talking assuming you have call waiting). If you don't pick up the incoming call, your caller will hear your "voice mail" message and leave a message. However, your answering machine will not indicate that you have a message.

If my assistance was of any benefit whatsoever, please give me a rating so I can continue to improve my service. Thanks for using FixYa.com.

2420 Gigaset call waiting answering machine

Make sure the answering machine is turned on for both lines. To check settings: Scroll, using BACK and FWD, to desired setting. 1. Press MENU 2. Scroll to "ANSWERING SYSTEM MENU" then press SELECT 3. Scroll to "LINE 1 SETTINGS" and press SELECT 4. Scroll to "ANSWERING SYSTEM ON/OFF." Check to see if it is set to "ON," as this is the default setting. 5. Exit MENU and Repeat steps 1 thru 4 for LINE 2 SETTINGS. I don't know if you have Acrobat Reader for .pdf files but below is a link to the owner's manual for this phone. If you can, download and look at the bottom of page 79 of 116 for more help. http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000052870.pdf Good luck.
