maybe the system cannot detect your hardisk because it's not working or have a bad sector. or try to reformat your laptop you need an OS save on the USB or if you don't know how to format try to go to asus service center
You have said that you have done installation and Harddisk are not recognised this is a indication of damaged Harddisk ie its registry is bad or its not working .
I recomend a new Harddisk then you will able to use your laptop
Before you change the harddisk you should check the IDE cables by swapping them coz sometimes they could be faulty, connect new cable to the harddisk then on it try installation again .
Dont worry at all. What you do is that while installing a new instance of Windows, select drive c it self. But do not format C:\. Windows will autamatically create a Windows\ directory and install the OS there without touching you othe folders on C:\ or D:\. If you already have C:\Windows\ directory from previous installation then you must install in some other directory, eg, Win or XP or WinXP. Whatever. This is to keep your data in my documents safe. Should you have some there. Any probs, come back to me, as I am online 24 hrs on my mobile and email is always on on the mobile.
you need to reformat the hard drive and then install XP.
to do this you will need to insert the xp disk and then reboot the computer/laptop. when prompted you will need to delete the existing partition and then create a new one. reformat the partition and install xp. you will need a valid XP code to do this.
Their are many good guides to formating and installing xp on the internet.
