I bought my 18" wild thing in 2007 used it off and on Saturday I was out cuting wood for the fireplace and it died, I cranked it right up it ran for a few minutes and died again after I idled down to move the log and go to another now it won't start I checked the plug and filter and they are ok. Any ideas? buysaleortrade@yahoo.com Thank You for any help.

I own the Poulan Chain Saw the Wild Thing. Replaced the spark plug and fuel filter and made a fresh batch of gasoline mix and I am still having a hard time getting it started. I had the exact same problem last fall. Repair shop told me it was flooded. If this is the case how do I resolve the problem. I took the plug out and it was dry.

Thanks,

**** Hansen

My sparkplug is good. HomeDepot started right off though. I took it back home and had to crank it 30-40 times. The line is real stiff and only pulls out a short piece.

You may want to check the 2-nuts holding the carb to motor. At this saw mill, we have a little Poulan used everyday. About every 2 or 3 months, it will get hard to start. Usually it is sucking air around the rubber mount holding carb in place.

I wrestled with mine for two weeks, new, out of the box. It turns out that the spark plug had a hairline crack in the insulator. Champion.

Now after using it a good bit, it is hard to start again. It either has dirt in the carb orfice or the diaphram is old and non-pliable.

I have a wild thing. the rope pull starter is very hard to pull. when i take the spark plug out it is easy to pull. the saw was not used for about 4 years until yesterday. it ran for about 45 minutes fine....

one piston ring has expanded now having no or a very fine gap increasing the compression ratio causing this to happen. When the spark plug is removed it is very easy to pull on the cord in any means. A inspection is due of this engine or a new chain saw is needed

Remove the bar and chain. Start the engine and observe the side of the engine where the bar fits to it. The oil port there should ooze oil out when the engine runs fairly fast. If nothing, then investigate the filter within the oil tank for plugging, the oil line from the tank to the pump for any damage or decay, and the oil pump itself. The pump should discharge directly to the port that the bar receives. If oil did ooze out of the port on the first test, then clean the oil passages in the bar end--two small channels that run from each large hole out to the chain groove on each side. Clean the entire chain groove. Check the sprocket on the other end for fairly free turning--oil it's bearing. Examine the chain carefully--if it got so hot that it turned the teeth blue--replace the chain, it has lost it's tempering. Assemble bar and chain--adjust the chain so that the lower side doesn't droop from the bar, and you can turn the chain by hand. The teeth cut toward you on the bottom run. If the old chain is being reused, sharpen the chain carefully so that it cuts quickly without undue effort on your or the engine's part. Hope this helps!

2375 ''wild thing'' poulan saw hard starting after carb rebuild

Through trial and error on fairly new Poulin Pro, found that the usual 3-half turns for both high and low was too much (flooded) (Used to be good starting point on weed eaters years ago. So, turned both all the way in, and only backed out 1-full turn. (2-halves) Saw fired up perfectly, and ran wide open just fine. Try that.
