Philips DVR model HDRW720/17 Display screen shows "Blocked"

Do you have a disc locked up inside? I found that there IS a manual release for the disc tray UNDERNEATH the unit. It is a sort of toggle lever that you have to slide to the other side and that releases the disc. The Manual does not even mention this manual release lever!

Also, it may be hidden or covered by a paper like cover.

Cone of HDRW720 Hard Disk

In order to use this software you need motherboard with two IDE ports.
You have to use both primary IDE ports, HD must be single mode...
IDE1 Primary - Your HD
IDE1 Secondary - Don't use it
IDE2 Primary - Your HD
IDE2 Secondary - Don't use it
Because it was so long ago I don't remember exact details, and it takes time to reconfigure PC...
But if need help let me know, and I will get you step by step instructions...

HDRW720 will only do demo mode

The error code has a Nucleus Group and Number followed by an Error Code.
The Nucleus 2100 references
DS_HDD_Communication
Check the communication between the digital board and the hard disk drive by querying the device type of the device type of the hard disk.
The Hard drive 282206200034 is no $399.80 available from partstore.com which you can just drop in since it is formatted. If you can find a hard disk which is rare due to the small size no one buys, it can be formatted to just drop it in. You will need the hard drive ( 120GB ATA), the PC communication cable 312278590017 $22.75 and the Service DVD 312278590710 $36.96 which will allow you to format the hard disk for the unit. I would do this for you but you might have other problems with the system which can only be found with more diagnostics after the drive is installed. Or it could be a drop in and go.
For the unit which is stuck in trade (demo) mode,
Unplug the unit.
Simultaneously hold the Stop + Open close while plugging in the unit.

Pictures distorted play/record mode

Run the diagnostic software by unplugging the unit. Hold the Play while reinserting the power cord. Continue holding the Play until the diagnostic program is displays NUC XXXX where XXXX is a series of numbers. Once the diagnostics is finished it will pass or fail. To return to normal operation unplug the unit and reinsert the power cord after 15 seconds or so.

Okay. I found that there IS a manual release for the disc tray UNDERNEATH the unit. It is a sort of toggle lever that you have to slide to the other side and that releases the disc. The Manual does not even mention this manual release lever!

Also, it may be hidden or covered by a paper like cover.

Once I cleared the disc out, I was able to re-set and re-start the unit.
