You can have a USB external mouse pending the time you will be able to have another touch pad because the touchpad is bad and it will be replaced with another one for proper functioning ok

My laptop's touchpad is not working properly, when i use my finger to tap or click it does not function but by using a seperate mouse it works normally. Please tell me how to fix it.

I will answer this assuming you have Windows XP.
Open Control panel.
Open Mouse applet.
You will see something like 'Synaptics Touchpad xxxxxx' as the device.
Select the last tab from top, 'Device Settings'.
Under this you will find a setting for enable tapping.
If your touchpad is not working at all, click the 'Enable' button on this dialog box.

On the bottom bar by the clock, if your computer is newer there should be a small icon that controls your mouse. Simply right click on it and check the box "tap to click" or similar. Hope this helps!

Tap to click does not work dell inspiron 1501

Tap to click is the feature of the touchpad driver. Uninstall any existing touchpad drivers and then restart the computer.
Go to www.support.dell.com enter the computer service tag and get the drivers for the touchpad from there. Also update the BIOS of your computer to the most recent version. In most cases a part replacement is not needed and the issue should be fixed.

Touchpad and buttons won't click on Sony Vaio

Hi,
it could be caused because of hardware failure or software failure, in case of hard ware failure it would be best to call sony tech support but in case of software issue , if you remember the day it was working fine,
do a system restore to the date it was working fine, which will reset your software configuration to the date you know it was working ok, so if it was caused by software issue it will be resolved, but any programs that you installed after the restore date will be lost

to do system restore
reboot your system when you see the sony logo start tapping the F8 key and you will come to a menu here select safe mode and boot and then
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts select the bold date your system was working fine and continue as it guides,

If you think the information i gave you was helpfull please do rate me

Mouse touch pad problem Lenovo Y410 model notebook

Just above my keyboard there is a little black strip with little lights.
they are control buttons and if you tap one of them it turns the touchpad off and on (so it's very easy to do accidentally).

If you look really closely at the strip in good light (or restart the laptop to see them flash on and off) you'll see that one looks like a touchpad crossed out. Just press this to get your touchpad back.

If it doesnt solve the problem, I have noticed that the touchpad can be knocked out by a Window Update of something called ideacom. If you believe this could be the problem please clarify.

Most likely you have to double tap. Depending on the laptop make, sometimes double tapping isn't intergrated.
