Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Goodman heater won't come on

Changed thermostat due to having to manually turn a/c on. A/c worked great during summer but when I went to turn on heat this winter I get nothing. I suspected thermostat and "played :(" with wiring. I then called Hunter and know that I have wiring correct. However, now I get NO POWER to the thermostat. I think there is a fuse or a reset switch but even with panels off I cannot find it.

PLEASE HELP WE ARE COLD, THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I would suspect if there is no power to the R terminal on your thermostat that the power is off at the furnace, or the 24 volt control transformer is bad. Check from R to C on the transformer for voltage with a meter with the power on to the furnace. If you have no power reading of 24-28 volts between R & C replace the transformer.

We gave a Goodmn Hertz 60 Phase I heat pump - installed this summer....worked great for cooling..now that temps are dropping we are needing heat. When we turn it on it comes on but never heats. Think it...

If you changed the unit but didn't change the thermostat it is possible that the thermostat that you have will not work with that unit. I see that the unit you installed is a heat pump, you may have a straight cool T-Stat. If you put the T-Stat in the "Auto" "Heat" mode the outdoor fan and the compressor should be workng as well as the blower fan. If it turns out that the outdoor fan and compressor are not running you will want to buy a Thernostat that is compatable with heatpumps should be 2 heat/ 1 cool

I have a old in the floor heating unit. The pilot won't stay lit. replaced thermocouple 2x already. It stays lit all summer and once it gets cold it shuts off. Any help would be great. Cathy

relight and watch flame during cycle if it is going out once the fan starts you may have a cracked heat exchanger!!!!!!!!
When fan comes on it blows out the flame. This is a potentially life threating condition; have a pro take a look. It could be something simple but don't risk it!!!!!!

Fan will not work in "auto" for heat request. fan works fine in "on". digital display on thermostat goes out during heat "auto" request. 24v transformer was weak, so replaced that. now, still same problem,...

What brand of thermsotat do you have, if it's working on auto and not calling on heat then the thermostate is most likey bad the metal plate on the inside may be wore down, you may be able to pry it up to make it work but it you ggive me the thermostate brand I can give you exact details hot to fix.

GDS80904BNA Goodman furnace only cylces off for a minute

Sounds like your repair man ripped you off. He should have stood behind his work.
1. I would try to clean the flame sensor located just below the burners. It is connected to "one" wire (Not the two wire) clean rod with sandpaper.
2. The old and thermostat could have a had a bad heat anticipator. if the new t/stat is not digital the heat anticpator on the T/stat needs to be adjusted. slide the small adjuster arm under the cover to about .6 or .7 and see if the solves the problem. if the t/stat is digital it should be preset from the factory.
3. last resort have a service man check your pressure swith. could be a slow inducer motor, blocked or bad vacum line, or a restricted drain or flue pipe.
Good luck!

Goodman with 2 thermostats, freezes in summer, no heat in winter

is the system zoned? if so maybe the zoning control board to the damper motor is wired improperly. when a system freezez its because of 1- restricted air flow across coil, (maybe dirty filter) or 2-low refrigerant charge. again could depend on how its zoned.

Goodman a/c works, heater will work fine then fan will stop

you have a circuit board acting up. Try keeping the fan in the "On" position. It will keep the blower on all the time but it may work. There is a built-in delay not allowing the unit to come on after you reset it with the thermostat, wait three minutes or so to see if it comes back on. I still suspect a bad circuit board.

Goodman ac / heat pump

I just had a new unit installed and I am surfing for troubleshooting tips too. My unit is doing the same... cools well heat sucks. my problem has been isolated down to the reversing valve... It is constantly energised which means it is constantly in a/c mode even when kicking on the heat strips... We disconnected a line at the thermostat and it is working well as a heater now. You may want to check yours to see if it is actually kicking over into to heat mode... -rob
