Re: Philips DVR model HDRW720/17 Display screen shows...
Do you have a disc locked up inside? I found that there IS a manual release for the disc tray
UNDERNEATH the unit. It is a sort of toggle lever that you have to
slide to the other side and that releases the disc. The Manual does not
even mention this manual release lever!
Also, it may be hidden or covered by a paper like cover.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Download updated software for free on Panasonic Website then take a Paper Clip or other small object and insert it in the small hole in front of the machine and manually open the Disk tray. The Updates should take care of the Problem !
I just bought the CH-DVR 1600
@ Target. This is just a temporary workaround to enable playing of
region 2 DVD disks (don't have other regions but believe it will work
also), until the real regional unlock is available.
1. Insert the region 2 DVD disk and close the tray.
2. Wait for the "Wrong Region" popup to appear in the upper-right corner of your TV screen.
3. The display on your DRV reads "STOP" at this point and the "Wrong Region" popup has disappeared.
4. Press the number "1" button on your DVR remote and a small input popup will appear in the upper-left corner of your screen.
5. Do not press anything else and the DVR will accept this entry as
a chapter # and proceed to this chapter to start playing the movie.
NOTE1: The DVR runs in a somewhat restricted node, e.g. the DVR
display still reads "STOP" and some remote functions do not work, such
as "Menu". The input numbers correspond to the chapters on the DVD
disk, so you can experiment and get to the menu once you hit one of the
extra feature chapters with a "back to the menu" link on it.
NOTE2: I’m anxiously awaiting the real unlock sequence, as I tried most of the old ones posted here, none seemed to work.
also try this -Switch player ON with no disc
in the tray. Close tray and press MENU, 1, and 9 on the remote control.
A menu should appear with the Region Option. Highlight the Region entry
and press ENTER on the remote. Type in the Region you want. (Put 0 for
code free) Press ENTER again to confirm choice. Press OPEN/CLOSE TRAY
button and put in movie.
Press 'Disc Menu' and wait for 'no disc' to appear on the screen. Eject the tray by pressing the 'open / close' button on front of the recorder. Enter the following numbers very slowly on the remote control ' 0086000 ' Press ' OK ' button on your remote control. Close the tray by pressing ' open / close ' button on the front of the recorder. You can check this has worked by pressing ' 0009 OK ' on your remote after the tray has closed. A display will pop up on screen showing the Region as 0. This means you should be able to play discs from all Regions. If this doesn't work the first time! try again! Hope this helps!!
Disc loading mechanism fault. Might be of a broken gear wheel or a drive belt. In rare cases, the mechanism replacement should be done. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Region code hack posted by videohelp4k1ng, July 27 2008: Hack for HTS3050 also worked with my HTS3565D.
Open the tray. Press 99990 on the remote. Region 0 will appear briefly on the left of the screen.

Region code hack posted by mikoyan, August 05 2008: I´ve just applied to my HTS3565D/37 and it worked great. Do not expect it to show anything in the display, though. You open the tray, click the sequence in the remote and... Done!
I have an LG DVD player and recorder model # RC7423W and i have a similar problem, when i open up the disk tray it displays open and the tray opens for 2 seconds only and then closes. when i press the open/close button to open it again it opens and never closes back with a "Disc Error" on display until i close it manually by pushing it back inside. I cleaned it from dust many times and tried to reset it but no reset button. i just tried to unplug the wire and plug it back. let me know if there is a way that i can reset the hardware or a solution to my problem. my system is around one year old
To open the tray this is not a perfect fix, but it will allow to use it.
After the unit is powered on:
1)Hit the "Open/Close" button
2)Wait a while (you will get the timing down with practice)
3)Tap gently, yet briskly with fingertips at area in the attached pic, that the red arrow points to
I think the problem is that the tray becomes unbalanced somehow. Because when a DVD is in, the drive opens fine, only when there is no disc do you have to tap on the unit.
