The fact about processors is that generally u will end up with changing the entire chipset because the new processors generally dont fit with old chipsets. If you are ready to shell out some extra money, you can choose the latest range of "Intel Core2 Duo" series or even go to the Quadcores.Post your budget and i will suggest a suitable one.

Cannot upgrade ram over 384 mb

nothing much you can do about that, the limitation is down to the processor/motherboard configuration. I have an old packard bell with the same 'problem'.
just max out the ram and run something like ubuntu linux on it - better and faster than windows (in my opinion) and it's free.
If you really want to run windows then nothing newer than win 2000/ME will run in that memory.

Why are some people against the intel celeron 2.2 ?

Basically Celeron is a Cheapest alternative of Flagship Processors of Intel . Intel was able to drop the Price of Celeron Range of Processors by removing the L1 Cache from it .
If you application is Just Browsing and Simple Word Processing , Celeron is a Good Choice and Wallet friendly .
But If you are a Gamer or a Graphic Suite User , Then you can join People who are against Celeron .

Difference between celleron and pentium which is better to use

Celeron has always been known as the cheap mans 'chip' because it is less expensive. Celeron tends to overheat quicker and doesn't cope as well with high demand. In saying that a Celeron does it's job - just don't expect miracles. Pentium is the quality 'chip'. Works well on high demand computers, faster at responding and less likely to have problems.

No, it wont hurt your processor. Actually it will probably be better for your processor. The more power you have, the better off you are.

Intel Celeron Upgrade

I know how you feel, you want to improve your situation but not spend a lot of money, and squeeze some more out of what you already bought. You have a latop that works, no need to get rid of it. The problem is that CPUs on laptops are really not made to upgrade. The overwhelming amount of data out there tell us that it's actually just easier and sensible to buy a new one. I know that's not what you want to hear, but- 1) celeron chips are really not designed for gaming, although that doesnt mean you can play simple games on them 2) if your chip is a celeron, it means your laptop was not a high-end one that had the pentium chip plus all the other higher-end (faster) components that support it. That means that even if you bump up your celeron to one a bit faster, it will still have all the slow components around it. 3) the motherboard limits what you can do-- it will not let you upgrade to the fastest celeron out there, but will allow you to upgrade withing a narrow range of celerons. This is because as chips get faster, the companies change the way they attach to the motherboard, and newer chips dont attach to older montherboards. 4) the main determinant of gaming is your graphics card, then RAM, and these wont be affected by upgrading your CPU. 5) even if you were to replace your celeron, you'd have to pay a decent ammount for it, maybe 100 bucks, and I've seen new laptops sell for 399 to 499 entry level. For me, I'd rather scrape up the extra 300 bucks and just get a new laptop, which will have the new CPU (much faster than the fastest celeron), new graphics card, probably much more ram than your system can now support. Don't mean to rain on your parade! Good luck.

Toshiba a30-931 what is largest posible cpu

Franky_J knows nothing you could go for a P4 2.8 cpu which would work much better than the Celeron in fack any P4 over 2.0 would out perform the celeron if you want speed get rid of the Celeron and get a P4 it should take up to an 3.2 P4 chip.

Franky if you dont understand cpu's then you shouldn't really be answering this question in the cpu world a 2.8 ghz cpu is not always a 2.8ghz cpu for instance this one has half the cash of a P4 cpu meaning it can only do half the work at the same time so in P4 terms this is only a 1.8 P4 equivilent so a 2.8 P4 will be a big improvement.

Re aspire 7104 being upgraded to duo core processor

No it cant be updated

Your acer aspire is based on the 910GML chipset

The Mobile Intel® 910GML Express chipset is optimized for the Intel® Celeron® M processor.

Here you can compare the 910gml chipset and 945 which is used by the core 2 duo.

http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=22210,7419&familyID=7&culture=en-US

As you can see on the page there are key difrences between the chipsets other runs on ddr2, yours on ddr. the FSB support is 400 on yours and 533 / 667 on the 945.

also you can see the supported processor familys right there.

you can look for a
Intel® Celeron® M processor,
Intel® Celeron® M processor Ultra Low Voltage (ULV)

Upgrade

As your processor is very old, to buy an upgrade would be more expensive than buying a new computer. There are not many of the socket 370 type processors around, if at all. Your motherboard will not drive any of the newer processors.

Upgrade the processor on a Toshiba equium l40 series from a celron M

The core2 duo chips will be a different socket to your celeron cpu so can do that unfortunately. You may be able to upgrade to a faster cpu of the same socket type but will probably need a bios update for it to run at proper speed.

Unfortunately laptops arent really designed to be upgraded at all bar extra ram/hd/dvdrw.

Hope that helps?
