Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My hotpoint washing machine has a knob to select which programme to wash in. But the knob was stuck and then came off, when I pushed the knob back on, the programmes now seem to be muddled up. For example if I select just a spin its instead going through a full wash. If I select my normal wash the clothes are coming out without getting a spin.

Take the knob off again and look at the back of it. It should be shaped to fit the shaft, like a letter D, it should only go on the one way but is possible it was put back on wrong resulting in the mixed up programs.

The wash dial on my hotpoint wmf760 is not selecting

The knob needs to be removed and the knob and the mating part will need to be replaced. The teeth on these parts wear off with time. There is a clip on the back of the knob that pulls off this holds the knob on. Then the mating piece will pull out. Eneter your model # at www.appliancehelponline.com for diagrams and illustrations. All parts come with installation instructions.

Washing machine programme knob has been pushed into machine

Turn the D Shaped spindle with a pair of grips until your machine will do a spin cycle only .

When it can do that put the knob on the shaft with the marker on the knob pointing to the mark on the facia saying Spin

Hotpoint BWD129 1200 spin - unwanted drying cycles

This is more a workaround than a solution. When you choose the washing programme (say "D") and push the on/off button, two lights will flash, the "door locked" and the "drying" one. Now turn the "drying programme" button until the "drying" light stops flashing (in my case, this is true when I set the drying programme to 40°C). Then start the washing mashine.

Seems like the function of the drying programme button has shifted against the settings written on the button...don't ask me why! Of course, no guarantee but works for me. Please let me know if it does for you.
