    the mixer head!

  • Anonymous Nov 08, 2008

The mixer head on my mixer wobbles terribly! I have checked for loose parts. (Outside of course) Today while mixing cookies for my son in Iraq: I had to stop, the paddle was scrapping the bowl so much it took the vinyl off of the paddle. Please help, I have alot of service people depending on me for goodies. Thank you.

My K5SS 300 watt mixer just recently developed the same problem. I have had this mixer for thirty years and it has seen a lot of use but almost overnight the paddle blade began to hit the bowl. It only hits the bowl at the two highest speeds.

there are two ways to fix this roblem. it sounds as if the clearence from the paddle and the bowl is off. if you have the bowl lift system where you can raise and lower the bowl ther is a screw on the underside of the mixer motor, if you turn it counter clockwise it will decrease the clearence and clockwise ill increase. if it is the tilt style mixer it is right in the area where the mixer tilts back. try turning the screw so you can decrease the clearence. when testing it turn it to the stir setting only dont use a high setting when doing this adjustment.

Kitchen Aid stand mixer head doesn't lock down and wobbles

You need to do a couple of strokes with a rat tail file at a 30 degree angle at the top of the slot the head lock engages into. You will need to remove the hinge pin to do this. A Kitchen Aid agent will have done plenty of then so it won't cost an arm and a leg to get it sorted.

My kitchenaid stand mixer arm wobbles when I turn it on.

if the head wobbles on stand, flip mixer upside down, and tighten the pivot pin screw way deep down inside stand. you will need a long flat blade screwdriver. it's probably loose.

My mixer is a lift-top and the top seems to be loose and wobbles as it mixes. help?

Hi, W/D here.

If you raise the head of your mixer, and look under the raised part, you'll see a silver screw head with a slot for a standard bladed screwdriver. Tighten that screw, and that should do it.

Wobbling on inside of mixer when beater is rotating

If the beaters are hitting the bottom of the bowl, try adjusting the upper-head stop-screw located near the top of the lower stand--it determines how far the head drops down and therefore, the height of the beaters above the bowl bottom. Hope this helps!

Top wobbles and beaters scrape bottom of mixing bowl when in use

Turn the mixer over and look up where the pin goes through the two pieces. There is a screw there which secures the pin. Tap the pin into position and tighten the screw.

Mixer head is wobbles. is there a way to tighten it?

I am guessing you have a model where the head tilts back. There is usually a pin that runs through the base and head hinge. Check that this is centered and not sticking out on one side. If it is, knock it back so it is even then tighten the screw underneath that holds it.

Mixer Head Wobbles

Fixed it!!! My mixer had the same problem.  It was a hand-me-down...
Okay, so I lifted the head and looked down into the pivot where there is a screw (looking from the front of the mixer).  I took a flat-heat screwdriver and turned it counter-clockwise.  (It took quite a few turns, the screw came out a few millimeters.)
BUT when I lowered the head, hurray!  No more paddle rubbing against the bowl!  No more head jumping up and down!  No more wobbling in the "locked" position!
Try it!

KitchenAid wobbles when mixing

The "wobbling" sounds like an issue of beater to bowl adjustment, which can come out of alignment naturally over time and with use of the machine.

If the flat beater is striking the bottom of your bowl, this may cause the locking mechanism to loosen and may cause the mixing head to "bounce" during use.

Your Use and Care Guide will cover the "beater to bowl adjustment," which you can do at home in a few minutes with a flathead screwdriver.

Also, leaking of oil in a stand mixer is not necessarily indicative of a large problem.

Kitchenaid stand mixers are overpacked with oil to last the lifetime of the motor. If the motor sits idle for some time (is not used), the oil may begin to drip from the gears and settle. Oil leakage may primarily be seen from around the beater shaft or planetary action.

A stand mixer can lose up to a 1/4 cup of oil before it needs to be serviced.

It is recommended to run the mixer on speed 10 for 2 minutes in order to redistribute oil back into the motor. In order to prevent future occurences, this is recommended to be done every 3 weeks if mixer is not being used.

Kitchenaid Classic -Mixer Head wobbles or shakes back and forth

Lay the mixer on its side and look up through the base. You willnotice a small set screw. This holds the pin tight. If the set screw gets loose the pin willl begin to move out and the head will wobble. Simply tighten the set screw. I just did this to my Kitchenaid mixer 10 minutes ago and it now works fine.

Kitchenaid Mixer head wobbles bad

The solution provided by luannej is useful only if your mixing attachment is striking the surface of the bowl. By adjusting the screw located at the junction of the head and base, you are actually controlling how far the head is allowed to tilt forward and, thus, the height of the attachment above the bottom of the bowl. Although the attachment striking the bottom of the bowl will lead to wobble (and noise!), it isn't usually the root cause of the wobble. In fact, the wobble may be causing the bowl strikes and adjusting the head height only hides the problem.

The head of the mixer is secured to the base by a large steel pin. Any play between the head and base comes from this hinge and its resulting tolerances. To "tighten" the sloppy tolerances causing your wobble, follow these steps: 1) Lock the mixer's head down and turn the entire mixer upside down. 2) Looking deep into the hollow base, find the small slotted set screw. This screw actually presses against the pin and takes up the slop between the head and pin. Note that this screw is not the large slotted screw I mentioned earlier visible when you tilt the head back. 3)Tighten the small set screw as much as you can. Your wobble should be greatly reduced or eliminated now. 4) Lastly, you may want to readjust the large screw controlling the head's tilt to optimize the distance between attachment and bowl. Hope this helps.
