When I try to fax I get a message that there is no dial tone but I am using a modem from comcast. I contacted comcast and was told to contact lexmark

1) Take a regular phone and test the line
2) Check the status of your modem in your computer

Start >> Control Panel >> Modem

Verify if oyur modem is giving to you a response

3) Check if the cables has been connected into the right port (line in - line out)

Fax problem


I want to make sure I understand this completely. You get no dial tone from the fax machine when hooked up to VOIP. In the past, was there an audible dial tone from the fax, or did it just dial silently and give you an error if there was no tone? When you said you got a dial tone by connecting a phone to the ext phone port of "the machine" did you mean the fax machine? If you get a dial tone by running a phone through the fax machine, then the line is good. I have used a fax machine over Sunrocket before they went defunct, which used the same technology base as Vonage - so it should work. If you used to get an audible dial tone when using the fax, and no longer do, and you are geting a dial tone on a regular phone that is connected to the ext. port of the fax machine, then the problem has to be in the fax machine itself, not the VOIP. If you can verify that, we can go from there.

Agere modem 2.0 no dial tone message


if its working properly before, try to remove the wirings and clean it a little then try it again, possibilities is its wires didn't contact properly.

I am trying to use the fax facility on my epson600fw.my isp is aol .Problem no dial tone. What connections are necessary............via printer,modem & computer ?


Typically, a fax machine is connected directly to a telephone wall jack with a known working connection. Try plugging the fax machine directly into a wall jack first and pick up the handset on the fax machine if it has one. You should get a dial tone. Then try to fax something to someone you know.

The machine can also usually be routed through the modem in a computer by connecting the "line" cord on the modem to the wall jack and plugging the fax machine into the the "phone" jack on the modem. You may need to install the software that came with the fax machine to get this to work.

If you have no dial tone, check the wall jack with a known to be working single line phone. If there is a dial tone, it's something to do with fax machine, the computer modem or the connections.

Some fax machines can take advantage of internet faxing through a cable modem or DSL connection. Check your manual for the options available.

try bypassing their modem and see if you get a dial tone,,,if you do then you know thats where the problem is

My printer will not receive a fax saying "phone off hook". There is no phone on the HP2410, and the phone is on the hook.


A "Phone Off Hook" message is not an error. It simply indicates that a telephone receiver is off the hook (the handset is lifted) and the telephone line is open. This message would be expected in the following situations:
  • A modem on the phone line is accessing the Internet.
  • A phone connected to the HP fax (or the same phone line) is using the line, or the handset has been lifted.
  • A credit card machine is using the phone line.
  • Another electronic device is using the phone line.
  • The Start Fax button was pressed with no telephone number entered. Pressing Stop or Cancel should return the display to a ready state.
When the other device is no longer using the phone line, the display should revert to the normal message. Checking the phone line The most common reason for this message is when a dial-up modem is accessing the Internet on the same phone line. Just as two phone calls cannot come in at the same time, two devices cannot use the phone line at the same time. If a broadband modem (such as DSL or ISDN) is on the same phone line and the message appears all the time, please contact your Internet provider for assistance. Even if a dial tone is present when listening to the phone line, the HP product may detect the broadband data connection at the higher line frequencies. Broadband modems must have a line filter installed to work correctly. Contact the telephone company for assistance. Please follow the directions below to verify functionality.
  1. Verify that the phone cable going into the HP fax product from the wall jack is a two-conductor cable type, not four-conductor. A two-conductor cable, like the one that ships with the HP product, has two copper leads in the connector. The connectors are usually clear, making it possible to see how many copper leads are inside the cable. Replace a four-conductor cable with a two-conductor cable.
  2. Disconnect the phone cable from the back of the HP product and the message should clear. If the message does not clear, unplug the power cable from the back of the unit, wait 15 seconds, and then plug in the power cable. If the message persists, see the "Problem still exists" section below.
  3. Disconnect the phone cable from the HP product and connect it to a single line phone. Pick up the handset and listen for a dial tone. If no dial tone is present, replace the phone cable. If a dial tone is still not present, a problem exists with the phone system. Continue with the steps below if a dial tone is present.
  4. Plug the phone cable back into the HP product and hang up any phones with a lifted handset.
  5. Disconnect, one at a time, other phones and devices using the same phone line. Check the HP product display after disconnecting each phone or device. If the message clears after disconnecting a phone or device from the line, the problem is with that phone or device.
  6. If the message still exists after unplugging all other phones or devices, see the "Problem still exists" section below.

You need to contact comcast for this issue and get a seperate phone line to which u need to plug in the allinone. This issue may exist most of the Comcast customers.

Fax busy, no response yet fax is sent ok


NG or poor line condition on the transmission report means that there is interference on the phone line.you need to double check the quality of the dial tone-if it static or clear.now,other interferences could be caused by other devices on the same line as your fax such as DSL modems.make sure first that you connect the brother machine directly to the walljack and try resending a fax.modem settings can be changed.e-mail me if you need that info

Fax unable to get dial tone after I switched phone service from verizon to comcast digital


splitters by their nature are flaky..i'd recomend you get a good phone line cable, since they are cheap, and simple..you have another phone line somewhere, to test the fax/cable combination, just to make sure?
