Can't download driver for HP LaserJet 1005 Printer

Hello,
I tried to download the driver for my HP LaserJet P1005 Printer from the HP website but it fails. At one point in the downloading, it asks me to click on "unzip" files, so I did so. It then says "unzipping" and asks me to wait, and after that it says "successfuly unzipped 62 files". And then the tiny window is closed. So aparently the downloading isn't finished but it stops downloading from that point !! Why does it do that ?
Thanx

    Yes I'm quite sure...
Actually, if you want to know the problem since the beginning, I was trying to download the driver because my PC doesn't have a CD player and I could therefore not use the setup CD. The 1st thing I tried to do was to use a friend's computer and put the driver on my memory stick and then in my computer. There, I found the setup.exe file. However, at one point in the setup, it says that it is looking for the printer (which I connected to my PC via the USB cable and which is well switched on) but it says that it cannot find the printer. This is strange because it does appear in the control panel. I tried to print the test page but it says that the printing failed (which is normal if the setup isn't finished). The 2nd idea I had was therefore to download the driver via the internet, to see if it worked better that way. But aparently it isn't working either...
Sorry for this very long story !!! Do you have any ideas as to what I could do ? If nothing works I think I'm going to buy an external CD player and set it up normally.
Thanks for all your help !

Most likely the files have been unzipped to a TEmp folder. You can do a search for these files, or alternately, make a folder on your desktop and change the destination of unzipped files to that folder. You could also try using the 'Classic" view in WinZip..

    Most welcome!

You should most likely find a file called setup.exe or something to that effect. Double click that file to run the installer. Make sure that your printer is not connected to the PC at this point. Plug in only when instructed to do so. Should you not find this file, please post the names of the files and folders here, so i can tell you which one to run.

If you found the solution helpful, kindly give it a Fixya! rating. Should you have any further queries, please post them back here.

    Cheers!

Hmm..those are all Dynamic link Library Files (DLL), but no executable (exe). Ok, did you read the read me.txt and read1st.txt files? they could give a clue as to what you should run. In the meantime, I will try to download the driver to my PC from the HP website and investigate. BTW, what OS are you using? XP or Vista?

Whoa! that is a 195 MB download from the HP wesite, and will take me forever...Did you read the two .txt files and see what they had to say?

Well, all i can suggest is try to download the file again. There HAS to be an .exe file, or else it cant be installed. Are you sure all the files have been extracted correctly to a specific folder, and not Temp?

Well, one thing I can say is that it is ALWAYS good to have CD player (preferably DVD) for your PC..always handy. They're not that expensive as it is, and are basically an essential part of any PC.

Another thing. before progressing with any printer setup, it would be wise to unistall any instances of an older printer previously installed on the PC. You can do this through the Add/Remove programs on the Control Panel and also the Device Manager. Also, plug in the printer only when advised to do so during the installer program and not before.

You could also try a clean install, which will avoid conflicts with other software during installation. Check these tips I posted:
    http://www.fixya.com/support/r545614-ins... (For XP)
    http://www.fixya.com/support/r643558-cle... (For Vista)
(Just replace the word 'camera' in the tips with 'printers' ..procedure is the same.)

But then again, you would still need the .exe file. Are you sure you downloaded the complete driver and not an update?

My brand new hp laser 1005 says out of paper and wont feed any of the paper through?

HP LASERJET P1005
PROBLEM: it was out of paper, new paper was installed, but printer wouldn't feed or print

SOLUTION: Lift the top cover of the LaserJet (where the printed paper would come out) and close it again. This resets the printer. Now the printer should feed and print again.
