When trying to take pictures, looking through view finder or on back screen, it is blank. Am able to access menues and all though. Canon PowerShot S2 IS.

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, but especially so for the S2 IS. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

First try pressing the DISP or DISPLAY button to make sure that you didn't accidentally turn off the LCD. But if that's not the case...

the problem of your camera is the ccd image sensor...better go to the sony service center for replacing the image sensor..i know it is free for replacing that sensor cause that is one of the model that sony recall produc and the cover not open error message is a poor contact of the lens cover switch...

Foggy lens! It needs cleaning or buffing.. you have to open the unit to be able to clean it, thats the setback of fixed lens cameras!
