Motorola TalkAbout Radio T74000 REPAIR

I have a pair of Motorola Talkabouts T7400 one of the radios used very little --- One of the radios was left outside on a deck overnight and now even w/new battery replacement it will not work. Is this worth fixing --- as I indicated it has only been used once or twice. Thank you. M. Knight

It depends on how long ago the water damage happened, on whether it will be repairable or not. If it was fairly recent, and you feel you got it pretty well dried out, then it is possibly repairable. If it has been more than 10 days or you left it wet, it is probably ruined from corrosion growth. If caught early corrosion can be kept to a minimum.

Get your radio to the service center of you choice right away to find out if it is repairable. If you do not have a repair center you can look us up on the web by our username.

I failed to prefice my solution by saying it sounds like the radio has gotten moist or wet while outside overnight.

One radio not recieving

You need to check your interference eliminator code. It sounds like they are not set to the same code. Also, if your radio has a Qt filter, set it to zero.

SX700 and T5522 talkabouts

Hello Walvis,

Based on a quick web search the Motorola SX700 appears to be a Family Radio Service unit for use in the USA and the Motorola T5522 appears to be PMR446 radio for use in the UK. While the radios are similiar, they don't operate on the same frequencies so they won't be able to communicate with eachother. Because both FRS and PMR446 are very similiar, Motorola often markets versions of the same radio (with slightly different model numbers) for each service.

Best Regards,
Ken

Communications

Hi,

Yes, but depends on the configuration/setup and programming/frequency assignation of the MTS2000.

To my knowledge, the UHF version of the Motorola MTS2000 are designed to operate either in the 403~470Mhz or the 450~512 or 520MHz band.

On the other hand, Motorola TalkAbout Radio are design limited to operate in the FRS band which is 462.5625~462.7250MHZ and/or the GMRS band which is 462.550~467.725.

So technically, both the MTS2000 and the FRS/GMRS share some frequencies. What needs to be done is to re-program the frequency allocation of the MTS2000 into its channels to match the TalkAbouts frequencies. The other way around is not possible. TalkAbouts frequency assignments can not be reprogrammed/changed. Below are typical TalkAbout Channels/Frequencies.de11c4e.jpg

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Neither radio will receive or send

The radio probably needs reprogrammed to match the other units. Check your owners manual for instructions.
