Question about Quantaray 500mm/1000mm Preset Telephoto Lens

Open Question

Quantaray 400mm I have a Quantaray 400mm lens that is in pieces. I am looking for a diagram on how the lens set up . I cannot seem to find a manual and hope it is the same as the 4 element 500mm. TIA

Without knowing what camera you have I would set your camera's aperture to f/8. I would have your camera mode set to either aperture priority or manual, and leave the aperture on the camera set to f/8.

SOURCE: nikon d40, t-mount adapter, showing error no lens attached.

You'll need to switch to M (Manual) mode. You won't get any metering through the lens, nor will you get any autofocus.

The Quantaray lens needs to be aligned with the red button. It fits perfectly on my Canon Rebel XSi

How can I find out the settings available on a Quantaray 70-300 mm zoom lens?

Quantaray has made several different 70-300mm lenses so I'm not sure exactly which one you have. However, if the lens doesn't have a AF/M switch it's no big deal. Assuming it's an autofocus lens, it's always on. If you want to switch to manual focus, flip the switch on the camera body.

If it's an older manual-focus Quantaray lens then the question is moot.

Will a quantaray AF LD 55-200mm lense work with a 2X teleconverter?

Well, this teleconverter would act as a magnifier to your lens. If you get a 2x teleconverter, it will double your zoom. so you'd then have a 110mm-400mm lens. The teleconverter is attached to your camera first, then the lens on to the converter. Make sure if you get a teleconverter that it's an autoteleconverter. Which means that it will allow you to still use autofocus. I would also make sure you get a name brand that has good glass because some converters will tint your images to a yellow ish haze that would require a whitebalance adjustment.

How do I adjust my Canon EF 100-400mm infinity setting on the lent. 300 to 400mm is out of focus.

I don't know your photography background and skill, so these tips may seem overly basic.

Have you tested this on a tripod? Not using a tripod can add a lot of blur, even while using the IS.
I would also try the lens at f/8 and see if you have the same focus issues. If not, it may just be related to shooting the lens wide open, where it's not the sharpest.
I hope this helps. It's just a few things to try.
Send a comment if you'd like some other possibilities.
Happy shooting with a great lens!

Using auto focus 35-55 mm lens on d40x will not take picture but if I use manual focus, I can take picture.

It is because the lense is only an AF lense. The d40x doesn't have an on-body auto focus motor so that needs to be on the lense. I have a d60 and have the same problems. You can use the manual focus on the AF lenses; however, to use auto focus, you need to buy an AF-S lense. It's disappointing I know, but that's the price we must pay for saving on our body lol

I am looking for a schematic for my quantary 19-35 lens

It's the same lens which is also marketed with the names Tokina, Vivitar and Cosina. It's a very old lens design and has been manufactured as both a manual focus and autofocus variant, so choose the right one.

You won't find a free repair manual with parts diagrams for it as it's still copyright material, but if you look on your favourite search engine you'll find a few companies who'll supply the information for a fee.

Aperture wont adjust on my canon rebel xt

If it's an older lens, for EOS film cameras, Quantaray might upgrade it free - contact your local Ritz Camera store ( it's imported by Ritz ) or find a repair center for Quantaray online.

Flash problems with Quantaray 28-200MM F3.8-5.6

Try using an external flash. even if you just borrow one inside the camera store. make sure that i isnt just the lens being too long for the on camera flash.

as far as not working all the time. that is a little more complicated. I would go back to the camera store where you said you took it and ask them to call their repair center and give you sigmas address. if you send it to them directly then there is no fee to have it checked out. and you will actually get it back quicker.
Sigma is the one that made that lens for quantaray.

Make sure your F stop number is not set to a high number.
like 22 unless you change the f stop in the camera. what im telling you to make sure of is that the aperture of the lens is not set to its smallest opening. because that would make the eye piece look dark inside. to fix you would just turn the ring with the numbers going from 3.8 - 22 or something close to a lower number like the 3.8.
let me know if that fixes it,
