Hi,
I have a friend with one of these printers. Her iMac runs OSX 10.3.x We have tried the following to get her printer to print again in color:
1. New ink carts with the tape removed from the print head.
2. Cleaned the printheads using the printers software.
3. Aligned the print heads " ".
4. Printed several Test Pages; all came out Black & White.
5. Turned printer off for 1 minute in effort to reset it.
6. Unplugged usb cable in effort to reset printer or usb port.
7. Checked control panel to see printer was selected.
8. Checked all printing programs were set to print in color.

Try this test:
Let's say you want to print this present page (of fixya.com from Firefox or another web-browser), try File/Print and see if you have the tab Advanced to change to the color cartridge.

HP Deskjet 3845 printing in blue yellow and green but no red. Print cartridges are new.

Check your cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality of remanufactured or refilled cartridges. Also make sure that the expiry date of the color ink is not reached. You should find it written on the cartridge itself.

Trying to print on a #10 envelope from iMac 27 with Os 10.5.1 using iWork. Printer will not load paper

I am on an iMac using OSX 10.5.8 and printing on an Epson R1800. With iWork, word processing module I set up the envelope to print and under the File menu, select page setup and choose #10 Envelope with Portrait orientation. I feed the envelope into the printer in the normal horizontal, top first, print surface up. In the File menu I select Print and hit Return. Most of the time this works. Sometimes the envelope feeds through without printing, and occasionally the envelope won't feed but the printer goes through the printing cycle. The R1800 is not the ideal envelope printer. It is made to print photos on photographic paper. I use an old fashioned typewriter to address envelopes.

My HP 3845 lately prints grey instead of black, in 'Normal' as well as in 'Best' modes. Any idea why this could be?

Go to Control panel
select printers
right click on your printer
select PRINTING PREFERENCES
Then on the next new window that opens up (the tab should default to PAPER/QUALITY) click on the LAST tab COLOR
Here you can see if maybe somehow your PRINT IN GRAYSCALE box is checked-uncheck it to correct your problem-click on OK at bottom to save the setting

Reply back if this does not correct it.

Hope this helps.

My printer just prints in very light red

You are out of red ink, OR the print head is clogged (but that usually) produces streaky lines more so than light color.
You can try cleaning the print heads:
  1. Open the 3845 desktop assistant c00026601.gif icon on your desktop or start menu
  2. click on utilities or tools
  3. click maintenance
  4. click clean cartidges
  5. follow the on screen instructions
If that doesn't help, you're either out of ink in which case:
  1. Buy a new cartridge (or have yours refilled professionally)
or your print head is clogged beyond repair, in which case:
  1. Buy a new cartridge
Happy printing.

Lexmark not printing black

Please remove the cartridges from the printer. Take a dry lint free paper towel and gently wipe the contacts on the back of the cartridge (not the bottom from where ink is present). Wipe the contacts inside the printer (on cartridge carrier). Please snap the cartridges back into the cartridge carrier and please try to print a printer self test.

The color cartridge on an HP printer 3845 has never been used

To clean your inkjet nozzles, open your printer's Properties screen and look for a tab labeled Maintenance, Services, or something similar. If you can't find it, look under Printer Preferences on the General tab. It may take a few times of cycling through the cleaning process to get them unclogged. Check the progress after each cycle by printing a test page.

HP Deskjet 3845

Sounds like the color cartridge is overheating. Could be defective, ESPECIALLY if it not an original Hp BRAND NEW cartridge. Change out the color cartridge and see what happens. Each tiny little nozzle has its own heating element. Electronics monitor the temperature. Will stop the printing until the temperature comes back to an acceptable range. Ed
