It seems that i need to have the router set up done...my internet went down and when dealing with sympatico they were able to only get it going with the modem to the computer and said i would have to contact linksys for a set up to have the wireless.....FRUSTRATED!!!!
You can use this software to re - setup your router. It is an automated setup that will you from the start. All you have to do is connect your computer directly to the modem and acees this link :
Just click on Easy Link Connect Link and save the file into the desktop. After Download just run the file or just double click on the file that you have downloaded.
The file icon looks like this :
Just Follow the directions in the interactive software setup. It will give all the instructions and will provide visual directions as well. For reference, here are the compatible models with the software :
** You can check the model of your router at the bottom part of the device itself, check the small sticker and check the model number.

Setting up a router can be overwhelming sometimes. There are alot of pages on the setup screen that (for basic configuations) you just don't need to concern yourself with.
If you have already tried to set up the router yourself with no luck press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 25 seconds to reset the router to factory defaults.(resetting the router is with it plugged into power)
Make sure your router is unplugged from power before you start.
1-Modem is powered up and running
2-disconnect ethernet cable from back of computer to INTERNET on the back of the router.
3-Connect the extra ethernet cable from ANY of the 1,2,3,4 ports, then connect the other end to your computer.
4-Power up router and don't do anything for about 5 min.
5-Open your browser (Internet Explorer) and type in the address (192.168.1.1)and press enter
6-It will ask you for a user and password User=Admin, password=password. You should be in the routers setup page.
7-Click on wireless security settings
8-Network name(will be default as the router model #) Change that to your last name to recognise it later.
9-Click on WEP and then click on generate key
10-WRITE DOWN YOUR KEY PERFECTLY(very important)
11-Save Changes and close browser
12-on your wireless machine click on"view wireless networks" you should see your last name.
13-Click on you name and click connect/then it will ask you for your wep password (a very long password) enter that password and click "save password" also "save network"
And you should be ok. I have had Linksys router be bad out of the box. In my opinon Netgear or Dlink would be a better option.
Any other wireless laptops or wireless recievers that you might have to add to the network you will have to have them search for the network and enter you wep key and save on each machine.
Good luck i hope that helps
