Re: no picture or sound

If you had a burning smell, well the board is toast. These sets are made to replace the entire board at one time. Before installing the replacement module, the picture tube should be checked. A defective picture tube ( such as a G1 short) may cause a failure in the power supply section.

GE 25GT270 TV had a jumpy picture for a short time, then TV shut down. Afterward, smelled a burning smell. What happened and can I fix it?

Check its vertical output section circuit for damaged component/s. Check the vertical output IC.

My tv has a black screen with a horizontal line across it, but i do get sound

Turn the T.V. off. Your could burn that line into the T.V. Your Vertical IC probably has a bad connection or went bad. It's got about between 5 and 8 pins on it. Try resoldering the connection points on the board before taking it in.

Screen black no sound or picture with line in center

this is a common problem, the vertical hold has been damaged.dont leave the teli. on,the white line will burn the middle of the screen and leave a black mark. You need a new integrated circuit(i.c.) for vertical hold.

No Picture

are you getting one bright horizontal line with sound.

if it is a case

then your problem is in vertical section

but remember to minimize brightness to avoid screen burn.

  • supply to vertical section
  • loose contact or print break in vertical output section.
  • any capacitor or low value resistor failure in vertical output section.
  • connector loose which is going to deflection coil.
  • vertical ic might be faulty.
  • hope this will help.
  • good luck

No picture

The thin line means you have no vertical sweep. the popping sound was the vertical capacitor(s) or the vertical driver IC blowing up. this happens sometimes out of the blue and almost always when you first turn on the TV set. if you cam solder, Get a schematic diagram, then you should be able to trace out the curcuit and replace the defective parts. If you have no solid state repair experience, you really should take the set into a shop or have someone estimate the set for you. If you do have any repair experience, and can send me a schematic of the circuit I will be more then happy to assist you find out what the problem is.
