DVD-VR357 plays audio CD's and VHS but won't play DVD's
Unit reads DVD for several seconds, aborts and ejects.
No problems for audio CD nor for VHS. I feel like going back in time, using VHS to "tivo" my TV programs. What can I do about DVD operation?
Just to clarify, the unit does not play any DVD. When I called Samsung Customer Service, they recommended that I clean the lens with a special disk. I did as instructed and tried on it a few times without success. Just to clarify, the unit does not play any DVD. There are any number of reasons why it won't play. The loading basket is jammed, the video tape has got tangled up in the mechanical section of the vcr or the loading gears are stripped. Unplug machine and remove top, [screws side and back] if the tape is spewed carefully remove by cutting it and clean tape particles, for any other problem have a technician check it out.
You have to "Finalize" the disc before it will play on other units. Go to Disc Menu, Second choice listed(not in front of it right now) Selections to right will offer disc Finalize. Say YES.
If exact model is Samsung DVD-VR357, than it doesn't even has to recognise blank disc as your unit is DVD PLAYER with Video Casette Recorder.

Closest model match for DVD recording unit would be DVD-VR375
Unfortunately you have player only and you won't be able to recor DVDs with it whatsoever.
There are some repair instructions available at www.AnyoneCanFixIt.com in the electronics section that will show you how to release the CD magazine and fix the problem where the unit will not play the CDs (you will hear a buzzing, buzzing, buzzing, and nothing will load or play).
Does it do this only from the remote? Or does it do it when using the buttons on the front of the machine also? Even though the unit is only 3 months old-I'd go to the manufacture's website and check support Q&A, and see if there is a Firmwear update.
the problem could also be in the brand of blank disks you are using. Some machines can record on all brands- others cannot. Sometimes the speed rating of the blank DVD can hose things up. Go to www.videohelp.com and put in your machines model numbers- they might have a list of compatable blank disks for your model-if that is the case. Let me know what you come up with. ONE OTHER QUESTION- does the DVD copy you made work in anyother DVD player- that would tell us a lot.
