Question about Acer AOpen AX4BS-V (91.89J11.001) Motherboard

AOpen ax4bs upgrade bios to up fsb?

I have an Aopen ax4bs running award bios 1.06

The ax4bs is a jumperless mobo when it comes to changing the cpu frequency via the fsb. This mobo uses a fsb of 100Mhz quad rate. I can only set the frequency as high as 1.23Mhz. I have a P4 2.66Ghz in it that is only clocking in at about 2.42Ghz because of that.

The bios I am using is the latest official bios available. I was wondering if there was anyway to use a different bios or unofficial bios update to change the fsb from 100Mhz to 133Mhz so that I can take full advantage of my processors speed?

Heh heh. Yeah I even have freebird tattooed on my arm :-)

Yeah after posting this I did some searching on the aopen website and searched the Dr. Open portion of the aopen site and saw a post saying basically the same thing. Thanks for the confirmation.

Hi PapaFreeBird,

Go Lynryd Skynrd!

I'm only fairly knowledgable on this board, but I am virtually certain that you are chipset limited at the 100Mhz level. I don't think there is any way to work around it, short of upgrading the board.

I know this isn't what you hoped to gear, but I think you'll probably be pretty happy with the system anyway, at least until you save up for a new MB.

I hope this info is helpful. If you feel it is appropriate, I would appreciate a Fix Ya rating on this solution. Good luck!

Bob

Overclocking aopenax4b-533 mobo

In some motherboards, you can increase the multiplier, which will increase your processor speed.(Briefly, Processor Speed = FSB x Multiplier) You can also increase the chipset, memory, and CPU voltage, which will sometimes allow you to have a higher FSB. There are other settings such as PCI Bus and AGP Bus, you generally don't want to touch those, either they might put risk to your PC, or that they won't make much difference in performance. Be careful when you overclock because you can really damage your computer that way.

Anyway to change agp voltage on ax4b-533? im trying to overclock 6600gt video card but i need to increase my voltage to 1.7. have award bios 6.00 but seems like settings cant be changed....

No, the AGP bus voltage cannot be changed. The AGP voltage is set from the facotry, and if you want a different AGP voltage, you'll need to get a different motherboard.

Ax4per with 1.8GHz does not recognize new 2.8GHz processor. Socket 478. BIOS is current. Is it not plug and play?

Hi,

Does it POST and can you get into the BIOS? You need to set the FSB to 133MHz and the Ratio to 21x.

(I am assuming you did install the CPU correctly and installed the fan.)

If you can't get into the BIOS, you may need to reset it using JP14 on the motherboard.

Turn OFF power. Remove the AC power cord. Hold the power button in for 5 to 10 seconds. (This is done to discharge any capacitors.) JP14 normally is on Pins 1 and 2. Place the jumper on Pins 2 and 3 for approx. 10 seconds. Then place it back on pins 1 and 2. Connect the power cord and turn it on. This will set all the BIOS settiings to default and you should be able to set the FSB and Ratio.

Do you have a manual for the MB? you can get it from:

ftp://ftp.aopen.com/pub/manual/mb/ax4per/ax4per-ol-e.pdf

Thanks for using Fixya.

Will motherboard will support winXP pro

Hi gimondor,

The motherboard really isn't your worry. Windows XP pro requires a 300 megahertz or higher processor. You motherboard can take from 100 to 400 megahertz, so you need to know what your CPU is. If your running an intel P4 chip, and at least 128 mbs of ram, and you have at least 2 gb's of hard drive space left on your hard drive, then you can run XP Pro.

Good Luck,

And please leave a rating based on my solution.

Not unless there something stuck inside the ports that you cannot remove...try upgrading your bios program.but make sure you'll follow the instructions on how to upgrade it 'coz failure to do so may cause your motherboard not to function anymore...
