Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Epson Stylus Photo 1410 printer, 10 months old, never any problems. Yellow cartridge ran out and I replaced it. No problems, new cartridge in new unopened sealed pack, removed pull tab, everything normal, exactly as usual. Pressed Ink Button on printer to indicate 'finished replacement'. Red light in Ink Button REMAINED ON, 'replace yellow cartridge' message REMAINED on screen. Printer sat and looked at me. I removed new cartridge and checked - cartridge carrier appeared to be intact, electrical contacts all normal, electrical contacts on cartridge all looked normal, so I re-inserted same cartridge. No change. Replaced with a second brand new cartridge. No change. Tried original (empty) cartridge again. No change. Turned printer off, waited, on again (at several points in the process). No change. Checked all markings on packets. All in date and OK. Visually checked cartridges. All the same and OK. Suggestions please!

SOURCE: I need to replace the color ink in my Epson stylus color 740

This is a hard one and you will probably end up wasting a cartridge if you force it across (like i used too) just try forcing it across (with power off) removing the cartridge, pushing it back (it must go back to the exact spot it came from) and switching it on, hopefully it'll notice its missing the cartridge and flash the lights to you. once this happens you should be able to replace the cartridge as normal by applying the 3 second button.

If the printer starts to make a clunking noise after moving the cartrige holder physicaly you may need to clean the runner bar (the metal one) do this with a clean cloth and then apply a light oil (not wd40) onto another clean cloth and run over the bar again.

SOURCE: Epson Stylus SX400 "Ink cartridges cannot be recognized"

Try this: First check which cartridge(s) are not being recognized. In my case where I replaced all three color cartridges, two were recognized right away but one was not. You find out by sending a print request to the printer and looking at the ink cartridge levels diagram in the dialog window. In my case two of three were fine but one had a red X on it. So I removed it and cleaned the contacts with alcohol then rocked it in the slot after pressing it in. It was recognized and the charging process began as normal.

Out of ink?

Many printer cartridges may have ink but the printer believes otherwise. Often this problem can be solved by placing a small piece of black tape over a window in the cartridge that the printer looks into to identify ink level. If you cartridge has such a window, try a piece of electrical tape. You might be surprised.
