Fax only sounds as if its online and wont send out my fax

Try this approach.
  1. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - the black box where the power cord is plugged into.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet.
  3. Plug the power cord to a different known working power outlet. Bypass any power surge devices or power strips - these tend to draw away power from the printer.
  4. Re-plug the power supply into the printer.
  5. Ensure that the fax telephone cable is properly plugged in and secured into the printer and into the phone jack in the wall.
  6. Try to send a fax again to verify that the problem is fixed.

What setting to receive fax

You don't have to manually set the printer to receive faxes. Your printer will automatically receive a fax when it recognizes a fax tone/signal/transmission. Just as long as the fax settings are correctly configured and the printer is connected to a working phone/fax line.

I keep getting a 'Phone off the hook' message. Phone is not off the hook

Hi,

Disconnect the power cord from back of the printer ( while printer is power on )
While holding the # and 6 key connect the cord back
( This step will erase all the fax logs and settings you have set on the printer )

Also
Press the Setup button and Scroll to FAX SETTINGS ( or ADVANCED FAX SETTINGS )
Check for ECM ( Error correction mode ) - Press OK
Turn it OFF

Finally if the issue is still not resolved,
Disconnect the Phone cord from Printer port and re-connect
Check for any other loose connections ( of phone socket ) within the house. ( disconnect and reconnect )

The Error message should go off

Fax will not work at all. I have reloaded the software, unplugged and replugged everything, talked with HP(they want a fee to talk) When you turn it on, it is a "fax failure" message. Will not send or...

Try to Run Fax Test
Press the Setup button on front panel
Scroll to Tools - Press OK
Choose Run Fax Test - Press OK
It should print the Fax Test Report.. it will list you the possible cause why you are getting Fax Failure..

If it says Hardware Test Failed..do a Reset on the Printer ( Hard Reset )

this will printer reset the settings to Factory default like your rings to answer will change to default, Speed Dial list will be wiped off

Steps to do :
Disconnect the Phone cord from EXT 1 of printer

while the printer is on, Disconnect the power cord from back of printer. While holding the # and 6 Buttons, connect the cord back and release the buttons after 5-6 seconds..

go thru the alignment process and re-align the printer
Connect the Phone cord back and try to Run the Fax Test and check if everything passes in the list.

My HP Photosmart 2610 will send faxes but wont receive them.

Hi,
If your issue is somewhat like this:
When receiving a fax the line disconnects. No faxes or calls can be made until the fax being received is cancelled.
Then, Try the following procedure:
  1. Ensure that you have a two contact phone cable connected to line 1 socket of the printer and that the other end of the cable is connected to the phone jack in the wall.
  2. Perform a partial reset on the printer. To do this first remove the power supply from the back of the printer. With the power off press and hold the # and 3 keys.
  3. Plug the power back into the printer, keep holding the # and 3 keys till you see “ Partial Reset ” displayed on the printer screen.

Receiving a fax on my Lexmark X6170

for these companies, try disconnecting the phone tremporarily to see if thsi is interferring just with these particular faxes. Sometimes if a company's fax is set to phone/fax, it may be trying to call you first beacuse ths would be the default settings. If it detects no phone it may by default accept your fax no problems. Hope this helps.
