Unlocking a password protected PC

My sweet daughter has a laptop for college work. To prevent unauthorised access by her brothers she wisely used password protection on boot up.

Sadly, she has either got the password wrong or too many unauthorised attempts have locked it.

I can vaguely remember a similar problem in my office where the tech support guys visited to remove the case and flock some tiny switches - could this be possible

OK, thanks for this, I'll try it when I get home and on Friday I'll let you know how I got on.

    Cheers

Yes you were right - it didn't work on a laptop! In the end I took it to PC world who did a password removal while I waited for £15. Oh well! Such is the price of knowledge...

    Cheers for looking anyway.

Well, the suffering just happened here or there. But the first thing you should check is whether you have the password recovery CD burned while you set the password.

If you don't have, then probably you have to rely on a third-party software. Take a try this All-In-One password recovery software, it should help clear and reset the lost password and bypass the locked computer.

Note: you can do this on your own, no need to send the PC to anybody for any repair because it's dangerous for your private information stored on the computer, best regards.

My email and all other services on yahoo do not open on my computer but do open on other computers. What could possibly be wrong with my computer?

Now more is known about computers, hacking into them can in some cases become a lot easier if someone does not have the correct firewalls and protection. There are now many ways that people can hack into other people's computers. This can either be by using your wireless internet service to then gain access to your 'C' drive, hacking into your password-protected systems and files, or simply sending you an email with a dangerous attachment for you to open, providing them with unauthorised access to your whole computer.

It is for these reasons why you should ensure that you invest in the correct firewalls, virus protection and security-enabled wireless Internet services. If someone is successful in hacking into someone else's computer, they will be able to access their bank accounts and all personal documents that could include both private and important information about their jobs or contact details.

The key is to outsmart the hacker. Include symbols and numbers in your password as opposed to just using words that can be guessed if the hacker is persistent enough. Making sure that you don't open any emails that look suspicious and give you false promises is going to ensure that your computer isn't going to get hacked into. They will have access to you e-mail and possibly computer if you do this.

Being aware of how people hack into other people's computers is going to ensure that you do not become a victim to whichever method the hacker tries to gain access to your home or work computer. Be ahead of the game with firewalls and extra protection with difficult passwords. Investing time into being vigilant could prevent your life savings and credit cards from being jeopardised unnecessarily.

User password lockout

Hard disk password is set from the BIOS. It is usually set in conjunction with the Power On Password. This password is stored on the EEPROM chip and is very difficult to crack - no backdoor passwords. It is used to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop and the data on the hard disk. Removing the hard disk and inserting it into another computer will not allow access to data without the HDD password.

Reset the router to factory defaults by pushing and holding reset button for at least 10 seconds. Lights on router will momentarily flash.

Require bios password

IBM BIOS power on password, hard disk password are stored on an EEPROM chip and is almost impossible to crack. There are no backdoor passwords available.
These password protection are set to stop unauthorised access to data on the laptop, also moving the hard disk to another computer to read the data off the hard disk will not work either.
There is a way to hack into the EEPROM, but requires electronic hardware skills to build a reader device, a working computer and software.

Daughter can not get laptop connected to the web from her dorm.

Its possible that the firewall on her computer stops it. The firewall may be thinking that the scan is an attack. Try disabling it.
