Question about SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro SDCZ62048A10 Hard Drive

1 Answer

Cannot be formatted

I reinstalled my os after a rootkit virus. I may have had the flash drive in the usb port when I did this, not sure. Anyway, I cannot access files on flash drive and pc tells me to format the removeable drive first before it can be accessed/used. So, I'm assuming my data got wiped/corrupted. I tried to format, but I'm not able to.

Thanks.

Pen drive access denied

USB ports and devices make connecting to another computing device convenient.
USB technology has been around since 1996, and is a feature found on most modern computing devices.
If your device is denied access to one of its USB features, do some troubleshooting to isolate and resolve the problem.
Viruses
Some computers come with a security feature that automatically denies access to a USB device, such as a flash drive, if harmful content is detected.
Installing an anti-virus software application and regularly scanning the computer and any connected USB devices can help you avoid experiencing denied access to a USB device.
Avoid opening USB flash drive files that you cannot identify or do not recognize, as these types of files are how viruses find their way onto unprotected computers.

Incompatibility

Inserting an incompatible device into your computer's USB port can also cause you to be denied access to your device's USB features.
For instance, if your computer supports USB 1.0 technology and you insert a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connector, the computer can experience interfacing problems that may cause a "USB access denied" prompt or situation.
If other USB devices begin to malfunction after inserting an incompatible USB cable into your computer, turning the computer off and back on again may resolve the situation.

Formatting
USB flash drives, also known as pen or thumb drives, are among the most common types of USB devices used in conjunction with computers.
Most USB flash drives are formatted using one of three types of formatting methods: FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS.
If you've formatted a USB flash drive using one method, used it on the computer and then reformatted the drive using another method, you can be denied access to the flash drive through the computer's USB port.
Wiping the flash drive clean and reformatting it again can resolve this type of problem.

Considerations

Many computer accessories, including printers and pointing devices, connect through the machine's USB ports and can interface interchangeably with multiple computing devices.
This feature increases the risks of picking up viruses and experiencing unauthorized reformatting. Limiting the amount of computers your USB devices accesses can help you avoid these situations.
Damaged USB cables can also make it impossible to access USB devices when they are connected to your computer.
USB cable damage usually occurs at the points where the cable and its connectors meet. Replace any damaged USB cables.
You have to be the computers administrator to change any values on any hard drive on your computer.
Click start control panel user accounts on the users tab click the name of the computer Administrator you must have full control.
Click start click to open on my computer you should see your usb drive could be E: or something right click select properties there will be an array of options
select the sharing tab option then advanced sharing make sure you have a tick in the share this folder box then click permissions make sure you have all 3 boxes ticked full control changes and read in windows 7
If you are running a Windows XP OS then you might be able to:
Click start right click on my computer select open
Right click the icon of your Flash Drive (It should be F:/ or something)
Click Properties in the menu that comes up
Click the Sharing tab
Click permissions
And finally, click Allow next to Full Control.

I have an HP Media Center PC m7330n. It recently was infected with a host of viruses and rootkits. I eliminated all the viruses and rootkits with a battery of anti-virus programs. Everything works as...

Hi there,

You might want to try to go to the device manager and go to the Universal Serial Bus controllers

Try to uninstall everything and restart the computer.

See if that will let the computer recognise the USB ports.

If that does not work, you might want to reinstall the chipset drivers of your motherboard.

Hope this works for you.

Hi ,JHONPIX

If your computer affected by virus, then your memory card will not show in the pc .so you will install it to another pc,and format it .Flash drive can not recocknize, becayse there are some reason .

  • VIrus affected
  • Sometimes when a flash memory stick or USB external hard drive fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory USB hard drive device appears to malfunction it may be possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted then it will indicate that it is Healthy.

If this doesn't work then it is faulty.

My daughters pc has a virus she cant do anything

Just a virus???
Need more info. If you think you have a virus, try loading an anti-virus program. I know, if the computer don't come on, how can you do that?
Find a friend with an anti-virus program, load it to a flash drive, insert it into a U.S.B. port and trying running it from there. If that don't do the trick chances are you may have to format and reinstall another O.S. It pays to have a good anti-virus program. Here is a couple of links for you.

Also try this anti-spy ware program, it also is free.

You need to format the disk drive before you can use it

You did not mentioned which windows are you using on your desktop.
Anyway, I guess there is no virus. However, I recommend you to backup your data and format it in windows 7.
Insert your USB in Windows 7 pc and right click on it, now click on Format. Once format completed your USB should work smoothly.
Thanks for reading..

PC is not detecting my Cruzer micro pendrive but

I have experienced this type of problem before. But what I did was to install an Avira Anti-virus on a system using windows xp and eventually it did open.

So you can try it as well or insert your flash into any another system that had a strong anti-virus which can enable you scan/format the drive.

Best of Luck

How to reformat my laptop? I don't have Cd rom, no floppy disc, its notbooting in usb flash drive, i dont have external optical drive. Whatshould I do? Thanks in advanced, acer 340t travelmate

If you could go to Avira and download there rescue disk on the flash drive, plug in the flash drive while the lap is off and start it with flash in.

Then you can run the rescue in dos( dos is before windows starts)
You said you could not because of windows, this rescue will scan
the entire hard drive, and if you have something like a rootkit, virus, trojan, Avira will kill it. Avira is the second best anti-virus software
on the planet.

Tap f8 when you lap starts to bring up the boot menu, and pray
that the flash drive is listed.
