-   HOW TO FIX SanDisk Sansa e250 REFRESH DATABASE!!!! If this occurs you have downloaded a song that locks up the Sansa, so remove that song or add a song at a time then after each disconnect and it will refresh until you come to the song that creates the problem - solution is simple, don't add that song. No need to Format or Reset to Factory settings ------ this works everytime!-   metaknight

Did you try holding the on/off button down for 15 sec. to shut it off?
Also, I was just on the phone to Sansa support and she said that the locking up problem is sometimes associated with removing preloaded songs. She suggested that I reformat the drive by connecting in MSC USB mode. (Change in settings on your mp3 player) Connect the mp3 player to the computer and go to MyComputer (usually on the desktop of windows XP) Right click on Sansa260 drive and move down to format. It takes a few minutes and I did disconnect while it still said writing on the mp3 screen. All files were gone and I reload. It seems to be working fine now.
Hi, what you need to do if it freezes again is hold down the power button and the volume up button, this resets it. it is a common fault and happens to mine all the time.
Hey I know a better solution. Near the usb connector on your mp3 player there is a small hole. It is actually a reset button. Press it and it will restart without loosing any data or damaging the battery.
ive had problems with that to go to the bottom of the mp3 were the charger import is theres a little hole take a paper clip and stick it in it is a reset button

ok didnt reallyget why the last person said wait for the batteries to die b/c u can just take it out. DUH! anyway thats what i did and it worked fine.
This happened to me once, and I tried out the solution above. However, I figured out that if your screen freezes up and won't turn off, all you need to do is simply switch the BATTERY SWITCH from on to off. You know that switch, right? Where when turned off, you can only use the gigabeat by plugging it in? Well, just turn that off, then turn it back on, and recharge it if your battery is low. It worked for me, so it should probably work for anyone else.
I had the same problem, if you hold the menu/power button down for 15 to 20 seconds... it will turn off... then you can turn it back on and everything should be back to normal.
Instead of sitting there waiting for the battery to die, simply toggle the hold button on then off. Then press the center button and the Menu button at the SAME time, and hold it for 6-10 seconds. You may have to do this a few times before it actually works.
This resets the pod, but it will not cause you to lose your music.

If you don't want to wait 20 hours for the battery to go flat you should simply reset the unit.
To do this get a paperclip, bend it a bit and insert the end into the small hole between the volume wheel and the headphone socket. With a bit og gently feeling around you will find the reset button which you should press. The unit will reset into an off state. Turn it back on and use it.

remove the 4 screws from the back and take out the battery wait 10 seconds and replace it wait till the player refreshes and your good
Rather than having to wait for the battery to run out, you can just reset the MP3 player. There is a small hole on the bottom right next to the place for the USB cable. Just insert the tip of a pen or a safety pin and hold it in for 5 seconds. The MP3 player will turn off. When you turn it back on, you may have to re-sync your songs.
Okay, my sugggestion is basically what Big And Rich said, except the m200 line uses AAA batteries that you can just pull out and put back in. But I think the big issue is the freezing part, not where it's frozen and you can't turn it off.
I've read that some people have noticed that their Sansa, and sometimes even their computer would lock up or freeze when they try to transfer a large amount of files at once, and that they get around this by only transferring just a few files at a time; if you're going to do this, it's been suggested that doing it through Media Player's 'Synch' feature is something of a waste of time, and instead the best way is to let the Synch create the folders where the music files go, then use drag-and-drop with Windows Explorer. (Basically go in the drive from explorer, find where WMP dropped the files it managed to drop, then copy over the other files you want from where they are in your Music folder, or wherever the files are.)
Apparently the bug they were talking about doesn't happen when used over a full USB 2.0 High Speed setup, but I think that computer power and maybe a few other things may contribute, such as low battery for the Sansa, corrupted MP3 files, trying to transfer an incompatable format, ect... I don't know exactly how much use any of this might be, but I thought I'd try and give you something useful. ^_^;

Sandisk has problems. Remove battery to turn off or switch to the LOCK mode. However, when you turn it back on you will probably be stuck on the "Initialization" screen also to refered to as the "Paperweight Mode". Cannot be repaired.
Ok what any person will do is just wait for it to completly just waste all the battery then when thats done you connect it agin and recharge and thats it eventually this will be the first and only.

Had the same problem. Nothing mentioned here fixed it so I updated the firmware and all sweet. No more problems.
remove the battery and send a complaint letter to the manufacturer as well as a copy of the reciept if available. ssend the product back once the company gives the all go.
I try solution 1 and 2, and the problem persist. The reset button is all in all a very good idea to keep on track your mp3 player; solution 2 also resolve parttially de problem: the mp3 player could reproduce mp3 so i can listen my music; but i could'nt transfer any new mp3.
I decide to upgrade the firmware to ums v1.171 Now it's fully functional.

- I think i have a solution to the freezen problem.
My pc has 3 USB ports that were not so direct to motherboard. It was on those ports that i have theis problem
Adittionally my pc has 6 usb ports, that were really closer to the motherboard, specifically atach to it. I think th efreezing issue is one of electrical resistance, due to serial connections (cable, port, cable).
I have been connecting my t20 to the back ports on my pc, that are attached to the motherboard, adn the problem no longer shows.
Toggle d power/hold and hold the power button on power on until the welcome screen comes on. this will put the player on recovery mode. Select reboot from recovery mode
There's a little area at the bottom that says, reset, you take a thumbtack, and just pop it in! It will be back to working condition without losing files with no problems!

I've been through that before. I just pressed the restart button at the bottom. When I turned it back on (thinking now I have to download all the songs again) all the songs and pictures were still there!!

Toggle with the Hod switch ( flick it back and forth about 45 times) then press Menu then the center button.
the problem with what your saying, Big and Rich, no offense, but after using one of these mp3 playerS for a year, you will know that it doesn't have a rechargeable lithium ion battery...it takes 1AAA battery for up to 17 hours, I believe it is, so you need to reformat the Mp3 player.
I just have this problem too. It also occured too me before, but the first time I let them(from where I bought)fix it. This last time the garanty was over. You plug the mp3 player in to your computer and format it, if u have some mp3 files on it, do copy them to your harddisk. Then u download the firmware of samsungs site of this mp3 player. You follow the instructions and ur mp3 player is fixed. I have put this message earlier in this problem.
For Flamino 512mb mp3 player, there would be a small hole right near to the head phone socket. It is a very small hole tht resembles the hole in a CD player tht s used to eject a CD incase if it get stuck. That small hole has to be pricked slightly so tht it gets restarted.
A General Info : Any Digital or Electronic device that has no option for the user to interact with the battery( molded battery devices..) will have a small hole for the system to restart. Guy's juzz check this out !
This has happened to me also. I can't remember how i found out, but it can be turned off at any time by pressing and holding the stop button continuously for 10 seconds.
I have a WaveX Digital WV-830C, which identifies itself as an SR-M800F when connected to the PC via USB, so apparently it's a rebranded Safa (looks identical to Safa pics I've seen too, other than case color). On the side of the player without the record & hold buttons should be a tiny little hole. If you stick a pin or better yet an unbent paper clip into this hole, you will be able to press a reset button that should reset the device if it ever locks up.
Hi, I had the same problems with mine. I called ipod tech support and they walked me through a few steps and we learned that it was the virus protection software that is freezing the computer, I had it go to a blue screen/safe mode all the time until I was able to "back door" the anti-virus software. So check your anti-virus protection, mine is McAffee - the ipod folks told me that they are getting a large number of calls re: this kind of problem.
