My Dynex optical wired mouse just stopped working. I tried plugging it into several different computers, and it would come on for a second, until I moved it and then the light would go out for a second. If and when the light came back on, the cursor and clicks no longer moved or did anything on screen.

I've had this mouse for several months, and it just randomly stopped working today, so I took it apart and figured out that the problem was originating from the usb cord. At the point where the little wires come out of their sheath and plug into the circuit board, the wire that bears the current was touching the ground wire, causing it to short out when I turned the cord (which explains why it would stop working earlier when I moved the mouse. Seems like the two wires should be insulated until the millimeter before they plug into the board, but they weren't. Too bad most people probably will just throw the mouse away or take it back without realizing what the problem is. I wonder if this is a common problem for others?

Have you tried the Mouse with another computer?
If you did and it worked, my guess would be a driver issue.
If you did and it didn't work there may be a problem with the mouse.
If you haven't the please do so and let me know what your results are so I can try to help you further.

Thanks
Dave

If you are using an external usb mouse, then there must be a loose wire connection. Try to replace our mouse and see if it's working properly now. Have a nice day friend.

Welcome to FixYa!

Here's a quick checklist to resolve your wireless mouse connection.

Solution 1.
1. If the underside of the mouse has an on/off switch, make sure to set the switch to the "On" position.
2. Make sure that the battery of the wireless mouse is placed correctly and is not drained.
3. After checking the first two steps, the optical lens on the underside of your wireless mouse should be flashing once in a while. If not, there is something wrong with the battery, the wireless mouse switch, or the wireless mouse itself is defective.
4. Connect the USB dongle in the USB port and let it install automatically.

Solution 2.
5. Connect the USB dongle in another USB port and let it install automatically.

Solution 3.
6. Restart the computer with the wireless mouse turned on and the USB dongle inserted in the computer.

Solution 4.
7. Download and install the drivers from here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-47909-1

I hope that this will help.
Thank you for using FixYa and keep me posted!

Mouse wont move on laptop

This issue might be with the drivers.
Try to find out the laptop driver CD and install.
Need to reboot the laptop once driver installed.
After restarting check it is working.
If not it might be with hardware issue.

It might cost you a bit more if it is hardware issue. For alternate you can use USB mouse(external), so it would cost about Max $10 for a USB optical mouse.

Normal 0 Disconnecting the Mouse Receiver from the USB port and reinstall the CD software program. When the program asks you to connect the Mouse Receiver to the USB port, do so and it should work.
Hope this helps. Bud
