    Picture and Sound Troubleshooting

Blank white or blank dark screen

  • Is this your first time hooking up the Wii console or have you moved it to another TV or VCR? If so, please click here to review our step-by-step connection guide. Our experience shows that the majority of these issues can be solved by double-checking your connection and finding the correct Input Select for your TV or VCR.

  • If you have verified the connection is correct, and are still receiving a blank white or blank dark screen when powering on your Wii console, then the problem is likely with the system and it will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair options.

    • Display problems while playing Virtual Console games

If you are experiencing display issues (dim, blank or half-blank screen, ghosted image, etc.) with a Virtual Console game while using the Component Video Cable, please read the following:

Some Virtual Console games default to displaying 240 lines of video. Some HDTVs are unable to display a signal with only 240 lines. Try the steps below to set the Wii to output 480 lines of video, which may solve the problem:

      1. While on the Wii Channel Menu (main screen of the Wii), connect a Nunchuk to Wii Remote.
      2. Select the Virtual Console game from the Wii menu, then select "Start" to begin the game.
      3. When the game starts, press the Home button on the Wii Remote. (In many games, the music can be heard when the game starts.)
      4. Select "Operations Manual" from the Home menu.
      5. Press the Z + A + 2 Other Buttons simultaneously (the Z Button is on the Nunchuk). A sound will be heard if the button combination has been entered correctly.
      6. Close the Home menu. The game should now display correctly. Note: You will not have to do this the next time you play, as the Wii console will remember these settings.

If the Virtual Console game is still not displaying properly, but all other games work fine, please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.

        Picture is out of alignment

      • If the picture is shifted too far to the left or right, try adjusting the Screen Position. (Click here for instructions.)

If adjusting the Screen Position did not solve the problem, please click here for repair options.

      Picture is stretched

    • If the console is not set to the proper aspect ratio of the television, the screen will appear to be stretched. Try adjusting the Widescreen Settings on the Wii console to match the TV. Click here for instructions.

All other sound and video problems

  • Is this your first time hooking up the Wii console or have you moved it to another TV or VCR? If so, please click here to review our step-by-step connection guide. Our experience shows that the majority of these issues can be solved by double-checking your connection.

  • If you have verified that the hookup is okay, then the game may be the problem. Try navigating the Wii Menu and Mii Channel to verify if the problem persists on those screens as well.

    • If the sound/video problems are not present on the Wii Menu or Mii Channel, there's likely a problem with the game. See Game Disc or Wii Shop Channel troubleshooting.

    • If the sound/video problems are present on the Wii Menu or Mii Channel, it is likely that the problem is with the Wii console itself. Please click here for repair options.

Make sure all of the cords are plugged in and that there in their right places. If they are and it still does not work, you might need a new video card and sound card. You need to take it to a shop to confirm the suspicion and to get it repaired.

But first, try a different set of cords because both the sound and the video do not work at the same time. Then try it on a different tv to make sure it is not the tv.

Try replacing the cables and see it this can be the problem.

Also try unplugging the console from power for five minutes to see if a reset can help.

If you cannt fix the problem, then it is probably a faultty mainboard.

Blue disk light on until console unplugged now games won't work

One has nothing to do with the other. It's a coincidence.

The blue light means that there is an update available from Nintendo to be installed. It could also mean that you received a message or news from Nintendo. If you don't like the blue light, you can change it in the wiiconnect24 settings.

If your Wii isn't reading games, the first thing to do is to check the disc. If it is not scratched or no discs at all are working, your drive needs to be replaced. You can find a new Wii DVD drive replacement at the following page:

My wii will not **** the game in can you help.

Step 1: Turn it on. Simple but often overlooked. The light needs to be green if it will function.
Step 2: Is the game the correct way up? If your Wii is standing up, The print on the front of the disc should be facing to the left.
Step 3: Check the troubleshooting pages in the manual or on the Wii help website (Nintendo help).
If you can't get anything to work you may just have to trade in the Wii for a new one.

    Disc will not eject

Turn the Wii off and on again after about 20 seconds. Press the eject button again.

Unplug the Wii's AC power supply if Step 1 doesn't work. Wait 1 to 2 minutes, and trying to eject the disc again after turning the Wii back on.

Hold down the eject button for 5 to 10 seconds

Try ejecting the disc with the Wii at different angles. If you hold the Wii upside down, it may help the disc fall out.

Call Nintendo and send the Wii back if non of these steps work. In most cases, a disc stuck in the Wii should be covered by warranty.

Nintendo says to see if power light was coming on, AC adapter reset. unplug from both ends for 90 seconds.Hold eject button for five or 10 seconds.

Nintendo Wii works fine on standard tv but not on hdtv.

FOUND THE PROBLEM !!!!! The problem appears to be the Freeview somehow interfering with the Wii signal. When the aeriel lead is removed the Wii works fine, and the audio/visual signal is great. When the aeriel lead is in I have the problems. I hope this solution proves to be of use to anyone else having similar problems.

If it's orange that means it is turned off. It turns green when you turn it on. Insert a disc, press the power button or hit eject.
