My walkman is driving me crazy

OK, I am going mad trying to sort out my MP3 player. I've updated the device using the firmware patches on the site, and I have the latest Sonic Stage (Connect wasn't doing anything for me). But I'm still having problems. Firstly, when in the middle of transfers, I suddenly get error messages saying 'the device ws disconnected', even if I haven't even moved the device. After this and I switch back on the walkman it says 'database not found, connect compliant software' and I lose all my tracks. Next time I try and connect up Sonic Stage displays a box that says 'updating database' and it ALWAYS freezes when it reaches 40%. Then I have to restart my computer and I still have no music on my damn player. Sometimes after this has happened I get an ERROR 32 message on the screen of my MP3, then to get rid of it I have to restart the device. (it doesn't work just switching it off or on.) So I've had the thing for 6 months and I have no music on it. WHen I do get music on it all is fine, it plays beautifully etc, but as soon as I try to add something else onto it something goes wrong and it's all wiped. I have had to initialize the hard disk twice because of some of these problems and it's really bugging me now. £200 and I can't use it, I'm going crazy.

And then i finally googled for more help and here i am posting a message. Everyone just splurge on a ipod, i know i know i dont like macintosh either, they make too much damn money but you will be able to do everything imagineable the easiest way!

Re: My walkman is driving me crazy

Hi there, i have no solution, i just wanted to tell you you are not the only one!!! I have had mine since january this year, was able to use it for three months before i had too many songs on the computer for it to handle. I updated firmware and to sonic stage 3.4 as connect (as we all know) hardly ever worked. I changed computers and i lost my whole music collection due to sonys small print, apparently unless you back up your collection you can't play atrac files if you move them from one computer to the other without their original Mp3s. Pity i converted all my mp3s to atrac then deleted the mp3s cos i had no room!! Sony does have software problems. Now, for 5 months i haven't been able to use the player...sonic plays the music on my computer now that i have collected it all again. I AM SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS AWESOME PIECE OF HARDWARE THAT IS JUST LITERALLY UNUSABLE!! I just recieved a message from sony to try steps to recovery that i have tried week and week again... i can only try one to two times per week before i feel like throwing it through my local department store window..What do we do with this equipment that cost money but doesn't work?? SONY owes me!!

that used to happen with my old SNW.... the way i fixed it was updating the firmware. you need your computer connect cable, the sony website, some hard drive space, and a little bit of patience. i recomend making a backup of everything on the usb device before starting this prossess, just as a precaution.

Hi when i plug in my sony walkman series nwzb-135 the port is not recognised by my pc

1.If it is detected as Walkman but not showing as a removable drive then a.Goto device manager and right click on Sony Walkman and select update driver
b.Choose the advanced option and then select i will choose the driver to install.
c.In the window that appears, select mass storage device rather than MTP device.

2.If it is not detected at all,you need to download the firmware from here: After downloading, run it and then connect the player to system while holding the "volume -" should be detected and the firmware would be restored.

Starts up to "Walkman" Screen then turns off

(Re)installed the 1.1 firmware update, and clicked the "format data area" box. It works fine however it of course deleted all my mp3s. I still don't know why it broke down but I figure it just doesn't work well when it shuts down suddenly due to "low battery".

Sony Walkman - Digital Music Player NWD-B105F

I had the exact same problem with my girlfriends sony nwd-b105 mp3 player. I fixed it by downloading the firmware version 1.2, which can be found here at the sony support link below.

- Backup your mp3 files
- Make sure your mp3 device is NOT plugged in
- Run the firmware executable
- When it asks for it plug in the mp3 device
- Check option: format data area
- Press Start
- When finished, take the mp3 device out and press the power button
- If everything went well it is creating a database again and will function correctly as usual
- Copy your mp3 files back to the mp3 device
- Enjoy your music again!

Boot Error Shutting Down Sony NWD-B103

Had a similar problem with the B103F. Not sure it will work for the non F version.
Goto Sony's support site at
Search model - NWD-B103F (non F is not listed)
Look at the "latest downloads" and select the "firmware update program". (alternately you could first select the "download" section and then select the model.)
Run (without the unit plugged) and when asked plug the unit. To be on the safe side, ask it also to format the data section.
When finished, the unit should be OK.

Sony Walkman NWD-B105F MP3 Player

I bought a NWD-B103F sony mp3 player last year. The mp3 player was working just fine till the same problem as discussed had popped out recent after 2 weeks i had left it untouched. Even I had followed the solutions given, I updated the firmware to version 1.2, I even tried the "pressing play button while inserting the player to USB port" method, the problem remained. I sent the mp3 player to the nearest sony service centre (still under warranty), they fixed it in one day and contacted me to get back the mp3. For my disappointment, I brought the player home and tried it out, the problem still unsolved. So, I'd like to know is there any other useful solutions because all other solutions given I had attempted resulted failure. Thanks for all the concern!

Sony Nwa3000 appears dead??

First things first-have you pressed the reset button on the bottom of the unit? Secondly- try updating the firmware on your unit the manual way - Go to this link. Go to download the latest version of Sonicstage but dont actually do it. At some point there is a link to update your firmware to version 3.0. Try doing this again, going through the update procedure it suggests, even if you already have 3.0 installed. This might work. Worth a try at least!
