Disconnected optical input cable

I connected a DVD player SONY DVP-NS51P to my audio system SONY MCHDP-1000D through the optical output and failed to get any sound. After several adjustments on both the player and system without sucess i finally opened by system only to find the cable from the optical input had disconnceted from on the sytems motherboard. I need your assistance in telling me where this cable should be fixed as I am not a service engineer nor do i have the service manual.

Hi,
Optical Input connector will go to CN601 of DSP board right under DVD mechanism.
See picture to find DSP board in MHC-DP1000D Hi Fi system.

Does it support surround sound

Well not buit in, but it has a 92 KHz/16bit Audio DAC/96KHz/24bit decoder and coaxial digital audio output. So to get surround sound you need to connect the DVD player to your home theater receiver using the Digital coaxial/optical output connector (i.e. fiber Optic). Your home theater has to be equipped with the same type of input and you could enjoy your DVDs in surround sound soon.

Note: the optical inputs and outputs are generally capped when not in use and you will need to remove the the cap to be able to plugin your cable.

Good luck and please don't forget your thumbs-up to help me help you further. ty !

Hi,
  • If I understand your question correctly you want to watch your DVD on your TV thru your receiver,
  • you need to connect either composite connections "Audio/Video Output " red/white/yellow RCA jacks or "Optic cable output" of your receiver
  • ( pls note that component to composite conversion is not possible on receiver ..use one type connection thru all the way )
  • to "Audio/Video input " red/white/yellow RCA jacks or "Optic Cable input" of your TV
  • than just switch to DVD mode on corresponding your RCA or Optic connection...
There you go..Your DVD sound and video both are on the TV..
  • Hope this helps!
Take care and please Remember to rate/vote and give me 4 Thumbs Up for me to continue for Helping out the Community :)

Need owners manual for proper connections to tv w/direct connections I hsve a sony dvp ns300 cd/dvd player

The connection you use will depend on the TV. For the best picture, connect component video cables (not included) from the DVD player's output (to the right of the other jacks on the back of the unit) to the component video in of the TV. Then connect the Right and Left audio from output 1 to the appropriate audio input of the TV. (These may vary depending on the TV and other devices connected to the TV. They might be audio 1 or part of a group with the component video inputs.)

Otherwise you can use an S-video cable connection and the separate audio cable or the composite video cable (which has 1 yellow RCA plug for video and 2 others (red and white) for audio). Connect these from the output of the player to the matching input ports of the TV.

For TVs with only RF in, you need a composite video to RF modulator (converter). See a store like Radio Shack for this.

The manual is available from Sony: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=DVPNS300 . Pictures of the connections start at page 15 and more detail is provided from page 17 through 23. See the manual for details if you have a home theater system or other external speaker option.

I hope this helps.

There is no video output from my Sony DVP NS51P dvd player though audio output is there.

Im guessing your connecting via a scart lead..... Try swapping the cable ends round so that the DVD end goes into the TV and visa versa.

Hi, I have connected component leads from my dvd

Enable the component output on the DVD player menu. Sometimes the component output is shared between RGB/S-Video/Component, make sure you select Y/Pb/Pr on the player's menu.

Is Sony DAV-S500 optical input compatible with optical output from Pioneer DVD player DV-566K?

I don't think this has an Optical but a Coaxial connection. You might try a coaxial audio cable not optical.
