Start pc wait a little press and hold ctrl+alt and hit del(delete botton)-at the task manager click file and pick new task ..type control panel ! this is just to load your icons (programes)...try to double click on an icon and see if it responds ..and take it from there to do what you need like uninstalling conflict programes and to check if you have spyware addware viruses !!if you get this message:intenal state of programes are corrupted !!...i do suggest that you try to start pc in safe mode first and see waht happens !!you could try msconfig at first by using task manager or doing it by clicking on run at the start menue and typing msconfig to trouble shoot this problem !!click on start up and stop programes from loading when you start your pc!!this might take sometime if you don't get lucky !!peace

How to enlarge the icons on the toolbar

If you mean enlarging the task bar items please follow the following steps:

1-Access the Taskbar and Start Menu. This particular menu will allow you to customize your taskbar features and resize the icons. Click on the Start menu, or Windows logo, from within your taskbar.

2-Select "Control Panel," then select "Appearance and Personalization." On some Windows 7 computers, this option may also read as "Appearance."

3-Click on "Taskbar and Start Menu." This will open a Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box on your screen.

4-Change the size of the taskbar icons. Place a checkmark next to "Use small icons" within the Taskbar Appearance section to make your taskbar icons appear smaller.

5-Click directly on the checkmark if one is already present to enlarge the size of your taskbar icons.

6-Save your taskbar icon customization settings. Your new taskbar settings will go into effect immediately. Click on the "Apply" button to save your changes, then click "OK" to exit from the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties menu.

Please help me of how to change the desktop wallpaper of my asus Eee PC 1005PX notebook. because when i right-click on a picture it doesn't appear. thanks...

Hi devil_cross1,

Windows 7 Starter edition comes with one desktop background, which can't be changed or customized.

To check whether you are using the Windows 7 starter edition or any other, please follow the steps below:

  • Go to the start menu at the bottom of the screen. See below.
  • Choose Control panel from the right menu.
  • When the control panel opens, double click on the system icon.
  • See the screenshot below. I pressed on Classic view so I could see all the icons.
  • The first part of the system properties box will open. Here you can see some details of your computer. For example it shows what operating system is been installed, the processor and how much memory your computer has.
If your laptop is installed with any other operating systems, please reply so that we can resolve it.

After I start computer and click on user icon, it won't open and goes back to the user icon page again

Sounds like a bit of corruption - what operating system are you running?
If you recently downloaded some updates that could have caused the problem and assuming you are running Windows as the only operating system, a simple solution could be to restore to a previous system point which you can do as follows:-

1 Switch the PC off, wait for 10 seconds then switch back on again, keep rapidly pressing the F8 key until a screen opens headed "Windows Advanced Options Menu". Choose "Safe Mode" (the top option) and a new screen opens displaying your op system. Hit return and you will see lines of text as the PC goes through a loading process then eventually it will display the login screen within a black screen labelled "Safe Mode". Log in & a desktop information message appears, click "Yes".

2 Go to "Start" > "Help and Support" > "Undo changes to your computer with System Restore". Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time" (under "Pick a task") and click "Next"

3 On the calendar that pops up select an earlier date you know it was working that is in bold and click on "Next" to start the restore. Once complete just exit everything and re-boot your PC as normal.

You now have a working PC but if not you may have to get your original operating system disk out and start the PC from that, then run the repair option through Windows setup but treat this as a last resort because you risk losing data.

The appearance of my icons changed, they now have a small blue square with two right arrow symbyls in the square.

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Windows XP
Change Default Icons in Windows XP
  1. Step 1 Start Windows in your normal fashion.
  2. Step 2 Click the Start menu and select the "My Computer" option. Alternately, you can double-click the "My Computer" desktop icon if you've enabled it to appear on the desktop.
  3. Step 3 Double-click on your hard drive to open the directory.
  4. Step 4 Find the program for which you wish to change the associated icon. You'll need to know its location on the hard drive. If you don't know where it is, you can use the Start menu "Search" feature to locate it.
  5. Step 5 Right-click on the file, and click the "Properties" menu option. This will open the Properties menu for the file.
  6. Step 6 Click the "Change Icon" button. If there is no "Change Icon" button, you will need to create a desktop icon instead. To do so, cancel out of the Properties menu and right-click the file again. This time, select "Send to -> Desktop (create shortcut)."
  7. Step 7 Click on one of the icons that appears in the list. If the icon you want isn't on the list, click the "Browse" button to search for more icons.
  8. Step 8 Click "OK" once you've chosen the icon you'd like to use.
  9. Step 9 Click "Apply" to confirm your changes, and then click "OK" to close the window.
  10. Step 10 Wait a moment to see the icon change. There are times, like when a lot of system resources are in use, when icon changes can take a moment to appear.
