Going from Vista to XP

How to do it rapidly

From experience, I have tried it on 2 different laptop (one which I returned and purchased a refurbished laptop with XP), If your computer came with Vista, it is almost impossible to revert to XP. The MFG will not have the drivers for XP available.

On the other hand if you had XP upgraded to Vista and you want to go back to XP, then it can be done, although not "rapidly"

1. Before installing XP, try to find your laptop/pc driver from the internet, download it all to your hard drive.
2. Backup your important files or do a hard drive clone
3. Boot with XP installation CD and wipe all your vista installation with XP.

If you would like to do it rapidly, you can skip step 2 (you're talking about rapid installation not safe installation).

How do i remove windows vista and install windows xp with out losing all my other stuff

If your Vista still work, go to the control panel> administrative tools> computer management > disk management > create an additional partition (larger then my documents folde size)
Move your files to this partition then install xp.

A few tips
  • Make sure there xp drivers for each componenet
  • Use driver magician and find xp drivers (check the pc mfg site and download all xp drivers and put them on this partiton too.
  • Use a partition program (dos) and format the vista partition and the hidden partition that vista creates or xp won't go in properly

Vista and xp in c drive

if you installed vista over xp then xp is no longer on your computer and will not cause you any problems, the only way to run xp and vista on the same computer is if you partition your drive- then you would have c drive and d drive.

No worry, it's good to go.

How to dual boot Vista and XP (with Vista installed first) -- the step-by-step guide with screenshots

UPDATED | Got a Vista PC and want to install XP so you can dual-boot between them? Here's how to do it, in an easy, step-by-step format. Page 1 - Intro
media_1221353917454.jpg
Scenario: You want to install Vista on your PC alongside your XP installation, on the same drive. You have installed Vista already. (If you have XP installed first, check out our earlier tutorial on how to dual boot Vista and XP with XP installed first.)
Tutorial Summary: We need to shrink the Vista partition on the hard disk and create enough space for an installation of XP. This can be done in three ways - using the GPartEd Live CD, the DISKPART utility on the Vista DVD or the Vista Disk Management GUI - and we'll cover all three. We'll then install XP and install EasyBCD to reinstate the Vista bootloader which will be overwritten during the XP installation, and then use EasyBCD to configure Vista's bootloader to boot the XP partition.
Updated September 2008: This is an updated tutorial, based on our first Windows Vista/XP dual-booting workshop. The main differences are that we are now using Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3. EasyBCD has also been updated and this makes some of the steps in our first tutorial redundant - the whole process is now easier.
This tutorial has been tested on a VMWare 6 Workstation.

Vista downgrade to XP

Good day

If you have all the Windows XP drivers for your PC, then it is not a problem to downgrade to Vista, although i will not advise downgrading, as Microsoft mentioned that they are only going to release the last Service Pack for XP, then there will be no more Service Packs for XP, and only Support for Vista.

Hope this helps you to make up your mind

Regards
