Problem with Sony Vaio pcv-rx860 (screen goes black at startup)

I would suggest first to try to take one stick of memory out and try to boot up the pc. Sometimes, one or both of the memory sticks can go bad or the memory slot on the motherboard itself can go bad. If that is not the case I would then remove all of the usb connected to the computer and last i would test the power supply.

Turning on my gateway 510 x PC I get a black screen/white cursor

Did you make any changes recently (add memory, etc.)? Does it make any beeping noises on startup? I've had this problem occur when putting in the wrong type of memory. If you haven't added memory and there is beeping on startup, find the manufacturer of the MOBO and you should be able to find a beep startup code to tell you what the issue is.

Try this:

1. Boot into the System Recovery Options screen.
2. Click on the Startup Repair option. (See screenshot below)

3. The Startup Repair tool will attempt to fix your computer and get it booting up again. (See screeshot below)
NOTE: Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem, and if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes repairs. If repairs are not successful, you'll see a summary of the problem and links to contact information for support. Your computer manufacturer might include additional assistance information. 1229d1232211692t-startup-repair-repair_working.jpg

Emachines T2385 startup problem

Psu is a Power Supply issue but the black screen with a blinking white line is not.
The blinking white line can mean there is no instructions to tell the Computer to boot up. Which could be possibly the system battery (cmos) or Hard Drive.
I would narrow those 3 things down first.

Startup problem

This could be a corrupt bios or a low cmos battery, follow instructions. Take the right hand side panel off the pc. Look for a disc shaped 3V watch type battery and replace (Very cheap) Look on the motherboard and reset the bios at the 'JBAT1' terminal put jumper(little plastic cap) from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for a few seconds then back to pins 1-2. Restart pc and enter bios when prompted(or press F2 or DEL on startup) to set time and date, save settings and Exit bios. It should now boot ok.
