Hi,
The problem can be caused, when a program running in the background fails to load completely. This can be either the program is missing some files or there is virus on the system. The first step is to try restarting the computer to free up space on the memory. If the problem is still there follow the following instructions, given on the link below
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826513

The second link is to Video, that would give you step by step instruction on how to remove the error

Do I need a new computer?

It depends on what you intend to use the computer for.
The celeron is a venerable CPU, but it is a single core.
Your hard drive is becoming small, a solution to this is to add an additional HD either internal or external.
The memory is on the low end. If you can increase the memory to either 1Gb or at least 512Mb, you will notice a tremendous improvement on the performance of XP.

If you want to use Windows 7 then the answer would be yes, you need to upgrade your hardware as well.

Hope this helps.

Dell Dimension 3000 Video problem

There may be a problem with your windows installation. Search Google for Hirens boot CD, it is a free download and should contain a live XP installation. When you turn on the computer tap the appropriate button to reach the boot menu, then insert the CD and select your CD drive. Once booted it should display a live XP.
Alternatively you may have your monitor set to an incompatible resolution. If tapping F8 won't display the advanced boot menu then try finding an auto setup on your monitor or change the resolution using the monitors controls. If the advanced boot menu does display then select low resolution mode.
Hope this helps,

My system says, (RAM) radon access memory low cpu intel (r) pentium 4 cpu, version 2.80 ghz. RAM 256 mb. What can I do to resolve this problem. Dell 4700 dimension

Windows XP requires a "bare-minimum" of 128MB of RAM, works "OK" with your 256MB of RAM, if you don't open too many programs at the same time, and if you close/re-open Internet Explorer about once an hour of usage.

But, Windows XP would be _much_ "happier" if you added 256MB or 512MB of RAM, because it is telling you ("available random access memory is low") that it is using all the RAM.

Add more RAM -- your computer will run much better.

My Dell p.c. is really slow (dail up) and freezes up all time. it says my virtual memory minimun is too low. how do i get more memory?? i have a lot of empty space.

right click 'my computer' and click properties. Open the advanced tab. Under Performance, click settings. On the first tab, make sure let windows decide is marked and then open the advanced tab. Under virtual memory or paging file, click change, Click allow system to mange size and then click set. Back out of all the windows and boxes by clicking ok or apply. You will have to restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
If you need more RAM, a good place to start is crucial.com. They have a memory scanner there that can tell you exactly what you have and what you can add.

I have a dell 2400 and my virtual memory is low, what do I do?

One of the easiest ways to fix this is to buy more Ram. Your computer most likely uses DDR Ram. Do you know how much your system currently has? If not then right click on the my computer icon and click properties, give it a second and it should display the ram information. Thank you.

Added 2g to a dell dimension 3000, only 1g recognized

Dell has a really good support site. You log on, enter your service tag number (on the top of side of your PC) and they will tell you exactly how much ram you support, the type of ram needed and how many slots it has. If it was a matching pair then it should be working, unseat it and reseat it, it may not be in all the way. If still don't show then put it back in the old computer and see if it reads it. If not then the RAM stick got damaged during the move. But no doubt you should be able to handle more that 1GB of RAM. Good Luck, let me know if you have any questions.
Please rate this solution.

Get message, window virtual memory minimum too low

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Select the Advanced tab, and, under Performance, select the Settings button.
  3. Select the Advanced tab again, and, under the Virtual Memory area, select Change.
  4. Select Custom Size, and set the Initial Size to at least 1.5 times the amount of physical memory, although 3000 is a good number; then set the Maximum Size at least 500 above the Initial Size.
  5. Click the Set button to the right of those 2 spaces and then OK all the way back to the Desktop.

I get "virtual memory low" message and cannot boot.

The real solution to this is going to involve spending some money to buy some new memory. It should cost about $30-50 depending on type and amount. 256Mb is not enough for Windows and other software to run. I would recommend buying at least 512Mb additional to add. Before you purchase open up your machine and look to see how many memory slots you have and how many are currently used. According to some specs on the internet, here is what you have.

Maximum Memory 2GB Memory Slots 2 (1 bank of 2) Install in pairs non-removable base memory 0MB Machine name: Dell Dimension 3000
CPU options: Intel Pentium 4 or Intel Celeron
Chipset: Intel 865GV Chipset
HD Bus: Ultra ATA/100
Front Side Bus options: 800MHz FSB
Memory Speed options: PC3200 DDR400 184pin SDRAM DIMM
Special notes: The Dimension 3000 has two different bus speeds each of which takes different memory. You cannot mix the speeds. Please check the speed on the memory modules currently installed, or use our "Check Your Computer" to find the correct module.
It is simple enough most anyone can do this themselves, and I could walk you thru it, otherwise you would need to take it somewhere, but my recommendation would be to do it yourself and simply ask me or others here for advice. Let me know if you want help to do this.
Good Luck!
