I have tried holding the cancel button down while start up to get the printer to boot. The scanner is trying to index and continues to make a clicking sound for about 45 seconds and then it stops. The printer never does boot up. Any other fixes?

I tried all the solutions posted, my waranty was finished and all I got from HP on-line service was "A technician will communicate with you within 1 day". Having no more communication from HP and no solution, I took the next step. I dumped the PSC2410 in the garbage. It releived me a lot!

    what are the so;utions

After the power surge, the printer boots up for a few seconds then makes repeated sounds as if a belt is stuck inside for about 30 seconds. The "On" light flashes and the command screen keeps showing the hourglass until the sound stops. The printer envetually shuts down by itself. Power up again and the same sequence occurs.

My All in one wont boot up like everyone elses. I've had it unplugged for over 2 months; didn't work. Tried holding the cancel button; didn't work. is there anything else I can try? The help would be greatly appreciated!

Acts as if scanner is jammed, makes a repeated clickin noise

  • Anonymous Mar 18, 2009

Had same problem. Determined the clicking sound was from the scanner light in the top of the unit and not the print heads. Removed the back plastic cover (2 torx screws) and noticed that one of the ribbon connectors to the motherboard was "cockeyed" in it's slot. Gently pulled out of slot, cleaned with alcohol swab, replaced in slot and machine worked perfectly until I opened the scanner top...then same conditions returned. I removed the back cover again to find that the wire to the speaker had "grabbed" the same ribbon cable where it bends and had once again pulled it slightly from the connector. Repeated process and re-routed the wires to speaker so they wouldn't put any pressure on the ribbon. All is good for now but I suspect the least amount of pressure or vibration around the motherboard could cause this again. May try a dab of hot glue along the interface of the ribbon and connector if this happens again. Not sure if this is the problem or not but it doesn't take much time to remove cable and replace if you care to try it.

I.ve had the same problem for over 6 months now. It started by power outage. At first it was easy to to fix it by disconnecting the power cable foar a while then reconnect it. The printer then could startup easily or may need 2 or 3 trials untill it works.
By the time it becom worst, thus needs to leave it overnight and repead the trial many many times.
In 6 months time after I've got fed up of that bloody product it gets hopeless case.
At that stage and because I don't have enough mony to by a new one, I decided to clean the Scanner Glass, the Scanner Lamp and the Homing Sensor. The cleaning must be done with ultimate care in accordance with HP instrucions found in:
www.hp.com/support. Your key word is: psc 2410 photosmart all-in-one, then click psc2410 photosmart, then write the keyword: scanner glass cleaning.
After doing this it could be started-up in 1-3 trials. which means the scanner lamp light intensity is not so good as it was brand new one.
Any way, that solution for a poor man like me is better than nothing!

Hi, What's solution #1? I don't see it listed anywhere. I tried #2 and I still get the clicking sound and the hourglass just stayed put.
The weird thing is that in the summer, my machine stopped working (got stuck booting up just like described by others), so I unplugged it for over 2 months. A few weeks ago I plugged it in again and it worked for all of one day (but not long enough to get a project finished). So I started researching other printers because I'm just sick of this thing, but then I ran across this website. I'm hoping it'll work tomorrow if it's unplugged overnight.
How long do you have to keep holding onto the Cancel button?
Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions on a new printer? Looking for a fairly good quality (more reliable) machine that scans at a high resolution.
Thanks for the help!

I had the same problem, too. Holding the CANCEL button during startup did the trick. Thanks a bunch!

Solution worked like charm!!! Just make sure you keep it unpluged for awhile. Overnight worked for me. (But I got tired of trying to fix it and went to bed) ;-) Thanks!!!

Solution #1 just worked for ME! But remember only works if yours is "making a peculiar sound and wouldn't boot up" as if the scanner is jammed.

I found this suggestion on line and it worked. After turning on my hp psc 2410 photosmart all in one, it just started making a peculiar sound and wouldn't boot up. It was useless. What I did to correct the problem (as per suggestion from cdpena@sbcglobal.net) was to hold the cancel button down before I turned the printer on and hold it down through the start up process. The thing works now. The problem may have been caused by a power outage. Thanks cdpena@sbcglobal.net. I almost bought another printer.

HP no longer provides support for drivers for this printer. The newer Windows OS will support the printer natively, but sometimes it requires a little finesse from the user. Here is a link to an HP forum where folks tell how they worked out the communications issue for the print and scanning functions. Hope this helps!

I too have this problem and I have found how to correct it. It worked for me and hopfully it will work for you and others. Turn off your printer. Open the scanner cover. Turn your computer back on. That is what I did and it fixed it for me for now. Please send me an E-Mail if it fixed it for you. I have a sneaky suspecion that it just started working again and me opening the scanner cover was not the fix. Thanks, Wayne
